Cabinet approves Bill for changes to SABC TV licence system

Cabinet has approved the publication of the SABC Bill of 2020 for public comment and consultation.

While the Bill has not yet been published, a report from the Government Communications and Information System regarding the Cabinet meeting stated that the Bill proposes reforms in the SABC's funding model and the TV licensing system.

The SABC and Department of Communications and Digital Technologies have presented two competing models to Parliament to reform how the broadcaster is funded.

Funny how these clowns can only think of two unworkable models. Etollie 2.0.

how will we be sure that showmax, dstv, amazon, google, nextflix, etc don't all charge you that levy? or is that what government hopes is going to happen? if they go from the equivalent of 42 people paying tv licences every year to 243million people paying, then that means super bonuses for all board members.

This is true. I can only see more negatives and looting on the horizon.
One tiny positive though is that hopefully some of the funds would be pumped back into the local industry, which has been destroyed by overseas content.

According to the SABC, the household levy proposal is founded on the fact that every single South African household has the realistic ability to access public broadcasting content.
This has to be the most dumbfounded statement I have heard in a long time. I have the realistic ability to go **** on my manager's desk when he pissed me off as well...

So sick of this ****ing country! GFY (edit: country = clowns running it)

  • ''Keeping the TV licence, expanding it to include smartphones and computers, and forcing private broadcasters to collect TV licence fees on the SABC’s behalf''...

These motherfcukers have now found that they've emptied the coffers and now wants to expand it further in order to embezzle and steal more money, this bottomless pit will not stay bottomless forever...

Would love to know how this will link with streaming services.
Unless you'll have to provide a TV license to buy a cell phone    :crying:

What is the point of suggesting retrded laws if cabinet just seem to always approve every crazy idea.

This is just one more retrded law being pushed out.

So let me get this clear, if you have essentially any digital device you will be liable to pay a SABC license ? And this got approved by cabinet how exactly ? Is everyone involved in approving this getting kickbacks from SABC or completely braindead ?
