CABINET has approved a bill that gets round the problem raised by parliamentary committees over the licensing of the state-owned broadband infrastructure company, Infraco.

An amendment to the Electronic Communications Act (ECA) has been rushed through that will allow the minister to issue a policy directive that will enable the state to invest in strategic electronic infrastructure.

Telkom was a Govt Monopoly that they lost control of -

Sentech is a 100% Govt company that they cant control anymore -

What makes me think Infraco is another money-pit?

What do you mean telkom was a government monopoly? government still has a big sticky finger in the pie.

Telkom changed from a 'Govt' monopoly to a Country Monopoly. Thanks to the Foreign shareholders that want dividends and dont care about people.

I reckon any companies that are in the process of getting licenses from !C@SA need to take the DoC to court and get the Amendment thrown out.

What the hell is the point of a licensing process if the guavamint just circumvent it so that they can make more money... its bull**** if you ask me.

Yes I know taking the thing to court will just delay stuff indefinately, but we need to have a decent legal structure, to build a decent regulator on that the guavamint won't mess with when it feels like it.

True, but the reality check is that 66% of those consumers voted for this government. And I don't see that level of support coming down anytime soon.

Those 66% don't have internet or telephones and are voting purely for the T-shirt the gvt gives them during their rallies.
