Can anyone help me with tracing a private number that keeps phoning me all hours of the morning.

At first it started as a joke, but now I am receiving some disturbing threats.

On phoning MTN, the operator said that I will just have to receive the calls, this made me FURIOUS. On second try the operator said I would have to make a case with the police. We all know how long this is going to take, and it may be too late by then.

I really need urgent assistance with this.

Please Help!:(

Don't think MTN or anyone else can do anything without at least a police case number.

You need to get a police case no. Then you will have to pay a fee to MTN (I think about R250). They will then try and trace the number, apparently they can't trace past calls, only ones you receive once the case is opened.

Eish... I'm glad it's not me they're phoning. I'd get freaked out if people were threatening me over the phone. Best you can do is go to the cops.

Meh, it happened to me a while back. Some idiots playing games.

I just stopped answering private number calls, hard to do on a business phone. Even today, I stop and think before answering numbers I don't recognize.

Get yourself one of those cell phones that can transfer calls...Transfer the 'offending' call to 112/911 or some police station number. I used to have loads of fun doing this, but I also transferred the call to the offender's Own voice mailbox...plain fun

Otherwise the police would be your only option…unless there is some nice Java applet that can ‘manage’/ filter incoming calls for you. That would be a nice app!

Its surprisingly very easy to trace it, but unfortunatley because of privacy issues it has to have the proper authorization forms to actually do it. Otherwise the SP's will get sued big time!!

Call Tracing

i understand the dillema here...

The police wont help i've tried as i was in a similair situation. They told me about a Section 205 that stipulates that one has to have enough evidence like who exactly is calling you...The police told me to make my own investigations and that meant hiring a P.I.

My service provider (Virgin mobile) was of no help coz they referred me to the police.

I subsiquently looked on the site for a P.I who wanted R1600 for his services and i had to supply the exact time and date of the calls.

unfortunately i just left the whole investigation and changed numbers coz i really have dont have that kinda cash laying around...plus i was scared of what i'd find out coz the damn fool was threatening my family.

honestly i wished there was some other ways of finding out who it was....

The guy that started this thread is probably dead by now - just because we were so slow to reply.
