We simply do not have the money nor the tracks. Kyalami, even after the massive upgrades, doesn't meet the required standards.

Toby Venter himself even said the only way we'll have enough money, is if we hit oil off the coast.

If it does happen there would be no way I would miss it.

If it's a street race the taxis will be up in front leading as these bastards cannot stick to their lanes, if they see a gap somewhere they take it, pavements included

Kyalami doesn't meet FIA standard to host a formula 1 race, didn't Bernie want a street race in CPT.

I doubt it will happen. For a start it is hugely expensive and we don't have a track fit to host a race.

Kyalami isn't up to F1 safety standards and as it is a privately-owned circuit that doesn't host many other high-level events, I highly doubt that the owners would even consider upgrading it for one event a year.

If it does happen my guess is that it will be a street circuit. This is the most cost-effective method but it will set you back a few hundred million dollars. Formula One won't sign a 1-race deal with you so you will be locked in to a multi-year contract that you will still be responsible for even if you no longer want to host a race.

It's a pipe dream. Even if it did happen, I fear that there would be many governmental fingers in this pie. And besides, who really wants to see some clueless dumbass minister of whatever on the podium presenting trophies...

The King would probably present the trophy, Badwill Swelintini or some other one...

No thank you.

If it was a historic series perhaps, for example F1 as it was in the late 80's and 90's by god I'd do anything I can to support it.

/Yawn.

Not this shyte again. Heard it over & over. FFS, we cannot even stick to a 3 year agreement to host WSBK, now somw wally wants to host F1?:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:
Last time it was to build a brand new circuit in cape town!:ROFL::ROFL:

Kyalami is hosting an international round of the Intercontinental GT series in November 2019 with a 9 Hour race. Will be grand to see the VD Linde Brothers in action on home soil, as well as Jordan Pepper.

well we did host a word cup (with bribes), and I suspect a f1 race is just as expensive to host,

problem is political pressure, nobody besides rich people like f1, and the politics of SA is to cater to the masses who are interested in soccer and not some rich peoples sport like f1.

true, we did have A1,but I doubt that will convince FIA we are worthy of hosting a F1 race.

Isn't it ironic how the vast majority of this country is fixated on Soccer yet they are arguably the worst at it in the world.

Durban street track a better option than Sandton, 1/4 of Joburg come down to the east coast every long weekend. They would do the same Race Weekend.

Still? So what was the point of the whole upgrade/rebuild? Weird to do all that work and not look at 'future possibilities'

I dont think they ever intended to upgrade to F1 standard there was never enough space apparently, AS trompie67 point out later next year they will host an international endurance race. So the future possibbilities lie in other races maybe SKB or Moto GP.

They've upgraded the track as far as they could given the space constraints. Insufficient runoff for it to be graded as a level 1 track (F1 & MotoGP), so it is a FIA Grade 2 track - can host all other national & international events.
