Calvo Mawela discusses DStv's value offering

The worst part of these articles is when they say "In random country it costs Rxxx for the same thing and it is more expensive than DSTV" They forget to mention the purchasing power in that country or that the average South Afican spends 40% of their salary on groceries vs said country that only spends 15%. Direct comparisons don't work.
These DSTV "articles" should all be titled 'Once again Multichoice paid us money to convince you that you should give them money for terrible TV'
Well you see, you're forgetting that Multichoice has to pay for those rights in dollars as well, so yeah sadly it does matter. Just because it's here locally, doesn't mean they get any special prices for the stuff they license. Why do you think the SABC and e-tv don't show much newer international stuff and sport? They don't have the money.

When you're paying for DSTV you pay for this guy's extravagant pay package.

"Sky Sports, with a premier sports and TNT sports bundle..."
1 Pound sterling equals 23,03 South African Rand
In some countries, DStv Premium costs over R1000 if you aren't bundling additional services and the currency varies in each country to have Netflix USA in SA legally would have probably cost R2000 a month and there's no way Netflix could survive with R200 a month for all those shows on there.

It's DailyInvestor math. They learned that from Hanno.

Not without multiple streams being allowed and missing 4K and Dolby Atmos!

But what if I want to do something with my time besides watching muh sports?

Bottom line is the international entertainment content took a nose dive. Recovering now (hopefully they keep that up or come up with sensible equivalents), but a long way to go before it's worth what it used to be again.

I don't pay for DStv premium. I bum a subscription. But I have to say they are the best when it comes to accessing my top 3 sports:
Cricket
Soccer
F1

Maybe they should consider dropping the price for a year if we as consumers promise to double their subscriber count.

F1 ?

I'm surprised to hear that.

I think it would be pointless now as consumers don't spend much time watching cable probably like 2 to 4 hours and those using Netflix aren't missing much with DStv anyway. DStv is better off focusing on sports and reducing everything else as that's what's driving revenue.

Guys, he has a point; it's certainly the best advertising platform. It rivals even YouTube in the amount of advertisements. I think my last count was eight advertisements consecutively during an episode.

That's what got them into trouble, thinking they can stop being competitive. They can't, but I agree some adjustment was / is needed.

Have you seen Google 10x times worse than the latter an entire page is filtered on ads, affiliate links or sponsored posts.

Got DSTV again recently for some sports. Youngest still thinks I am pulling her leg that we need to wait for the next episode.

Streaming age, at least she knows what vinyl is I guess.
The wife has DSTV because she watches Kyknet. I do not watch DSTV at all. She pays for it.

I have F1tv and all the rest I stream from wherever.

The other day I walked into the room while she was watching some series on DSTV and I told her that I watched the same series months ago.

Must've felt so proud... like yeah look at me.

No just the fact that they were so far behind. I was under the impression that she was re-watching the series.
And what series was it? Plus I am still trying to understand your post.
You pay for F1 but have DSTV? So why not just watch it there? Plus you and your wife don't watch the same stuff?
