Can connect - But NO Internet Connectivity?

Hi,

This morning I tried to get on the 'net. My modem connected to the tower fine (with my pringle-antenna).

And that was all I got!

Couldn't connect to anyone! Couldn't retrieve email. Couldn't browse the web. Couldn't even get onto www.sentech.co.za!

So I called the helpdesk (this was fairly early - 4:30am). Selected the MyWireless technical support - and listened to the recoreded message for ever. Tried until 6am - nobody bothered answering the phone. Tried the VTech line - same story - nobody home!

Left messages for the tech 'support'! STILL waiting for a call back from them ...

So, the situation is normal - MyWireless doesn't work, and the help desk doesn't even answer the phone! So if you've got a slow connection- you're doing well!

Something was/is definately amis. I had that last night briefly, this morning (same time as you) and then from around 11am to 1pm today as well.
Powerband (who I'm go through at the moment) spoke to me and said that there is a problem and it will be sorted out before the end of the month. No reason given on what the problem actually is.

Same here connected to Mintek. Off from before 06:45 to 08:00 and again at around 11:00 don't know how long.

So much for "always on".

Same problem, left the speakerphone on waiting for a reply from 12am till 2, and then decided to call it quits.
Service still unusable today, had brief periods of activity between 9 and 11 this morning.

The interesting thing was the message when calling helpdesk, last night it said, "If you are calling about speed issues, we are aware of them and are currently working on resolving them",
And this morning : "If you are calling about connection problems, we are aware of them and are currently working on resolving them"

Looking at my graphs there were a few seperate issues today. During some periods of the outages we could not connect outside the network. During other times we could talk to sentech's gateway for mysmokesignal but nothing else... and then of course there was complete outages ....

Now if only the latency would stay down.... BUT that's probably too much to ask - the moment everyone gets home and back online it will rocket back to over 500ms ave.

What scares me is the comment made by DFamtom - "will be sorted out before the end of the month" ... here's to another 16 days of this ... hic ...

Ditto here for most of the night last night and up to the morning. Was able to retrieve e-mail before 10am. I suppose they "are working on it" (now if they could just figure out that "it" is I.T. we may get somewhere. They probably do have some work to do to fix the speed problems and probably also do not find it an easy task being in the spotlight right now and having to do it live. I maintain that I would not mind so much if there were some better communication from them. Public, not a private e-mail here and there (of which I have only heard rumours).

Hi

I also had no connectivity this morning.

Attempting to call the helpdesk is basically a huge waste of time, I was on hold for ages, and decided to leave a message, which took them more than 24 hours to call back, and the guy who called was clueless.

Come on Sentech, we know you are technically challenged!!,,,get some good staff to fix your network !!

and also, if I want a fast connection, I can use my dial-up account which I keep as spare...so much for "broadband"

sad isnt it, but TIA (this is africa)

cheers, and have a great day:)

Interesting that quite a few UK broadband suppliers provide a "free" dial-up account in case you're out of the coverage zone OR there's a problem with connectivity ....

Lesson to be learnt ?

Yes most critical internet apps provide dialup backup But not sentech. we in durban often get downtime and they have a license to transmit at 2mW unlike WISPS which are only allowed to go as high as 100mW. Why oh Why do they have this broken network problem... not to mention that we have to restart their modems regularly and only their one distributor is allowed to supply the ethernet cables which they often don't have stick of. ie sentech sucks but not as bad as telscum.

Receiving off the Goodwood Tower in Cape Town, but continually experiencing problems with disconnecting. Connecting doesn't seem to stay on for very long and sometimes not even for a minute. I was fortunate today to have over 11hrs of connectivity and then earlier this evening the disconnects began again. This has been on and off like this for more than two weeks. Prior to that I was only have periodic disconnects.

Can someone tell me what is going on?
