So my dad bought this 5kg cylinder elsewhere and I want to get it filled en route home today. I need to stop for something else at builders, so I want to know do they fill canisters that weren't bought at builders? What price can I expect for a 5kg re-fill?
Yes you can but depends on the builders branch

Not sure which area you are in?

Have often refilled cylinders bought elsewhere at Builders Express in Cheltondale (opposite Pick n Pay Norwood Hypermarket)

Thanks all - very helpful :)
OH BTW I do not fill at builders - prefer Makro
Not sure if all builders but at the Sunninghill one you go with a 3KG tank they will charge you for 3KG gas.
Makro they weigh the tank and only charge what they fill.

Also shop around for gas prices as it is not regulated.

There is a maximum retail price. Dealers can charge you less but charging more is illegal. Do check though as I had one **** dealer in Cape Town try to over charge me and claim that there is no regulated price. In Cape Town you shouldn't pay more than R23.43 per kg.
