Can I have an IPad mailed to me?

Hello,
I just moved to ZA from the USA last week. My wife has an iPad with a cracked screen and I wanted to upgrade to the iPad pro next month. Apple products are insanely expensive here and I want to have one mailed from home. So I have a couple questions, if you don't mind helping.

1) can I physically have it mailed and expect it to get to me?

2) how much is the VAT?

3) do I even have to have it taxed if it is not coming from a store? (I.e. If I have a friend mail it to me)

4) How do they know how much it is worth? Can I have my friend "buy" it from me for $25 and then gift it to me, "invoice" included?

5) Where would I go to pay any taxes?

6) would th roost office hold it for pick up to avoid theft?

I would suggest you do not use the South African post office.

Try to send your parcel via a courier. Costly yes, but at least you will get your product

If you have a friend mail it to you just make them mark the parcel as a gift - you shouldn't get hit with any import duties then.

Would definitely go the FedEx / DHL / whoever route.

If you send it via normal mail it will most likely never reach you.

Courier is best because they offer tracking and insurance. Say you buy from Amazon, they will work out any duties you may have to pay so that you get an all inclusive price. However, if you have a friend coming over, that works even better. Just make sure to have no box and have a working iPad unit (I.e make it look used with apps and pics)

The gift idea cam also work but sometimes they still charge taxes on it. Damn SARS
