Although I would recommend you reboot it once in a while just to flush the IP and cache.

Erm, that's what routers are for. So yes. Nobody turns their wifi hotspots off (unless the internet connection drops).

You will find most routers and firewalls run for months and months - no problem with quality equipment and clean power.

Not sure if that is applicable to me, but I have to reset my B593 LTE router periodically, on average every 2 weeks, as the authentication on the LTE network is lost, but I don't think its a router issue, probably a "timeout" type thing on the network.

Yes, you should be able to leave it on 24/7.

There are few reasons why one should switch off routers and unplug them completely from the line:

(1) When away from home and you are not going to be using the connection at all for any reason.
(2) In heavy lightning areas of the country.
(3) During load shedding and unstable power conditions.

Then one should reboot them when issues arise that indicate that reboot will be beneficial.

And Wi-Fi hotspots? Security is the prime reason why these should be disabled when not in regular use. One should change the access passwords regularly, to avoid the hotspots being hacked and compromised.

You can add Mac address authentication to help prevent your wifi being hacked. Should help keep the riff-raff out.

Nobody except me. I have an app to turn my access points on/off as I need them

You can do it via 192.168.1.1, or via the button on the back of the router for the few times it'd be necessary - I normally do it when I'm starting official online gaming sessions, so once a week. Not sure you'd need an app for that.

The rest of the time I'm probably on the phone, or laptop in the living room, for which I very much need Wi-Fi.

I have multiple access points, in hard to reach places, and clicking a button in an app is a lot easier than logging into each device manually...

How about this one. BIPAC-5100. In continuous service since ADSL line in early 2005 I think. Can't remember exact date. Only ever off as listed in other post.
