Hey Guys,

I have a BMW 118i M-Sport (F20) which I bought Nov 2012, brand new.

I would like to exchange it for a bakkie. I owe the bank much less than what the value (book or Market) is, since i had a pretty hefty deposit and extra payments on it.

The car is around 56000km and is in good condition.

I have contemplated selling it privately, but I'm not really keen on the hassle and risk associated with that.

So i wanted to know if:
1) Can i return it to BMW (I use BMW finance)
2) Can I sell it to a dealer - Please recommend
3) Would i be able to trade it in and buy a used bakkie - Can you even trade a car worth more than a car you buying and have the dealer refund some cash back to you?
4) What other options am i missing/should i consider for this?

Thanks

Here's an option that you might consider: Ask BMW Finance.

Free tip: They're the only ones who can actually give you the answer.

1) Request a settlement letter from BMW finance.
2) Approach dealer of Bakkie you like and request a trade-in value of your bmw on the Bakkie.
3) If trade-in value is greater than settlement value then you can use the proceeds towards the purchase price of the Bakkie.
4) If you have excess funds after the purchase of the Bakkie the dealer will refund you the difference. The dealer will settle the finance directly with the bank.

Please use reputable dealers and speak to your bank for advice.

Sigh, some threads on here.....

Yeah, the thread title seems all dramatic and you might think its from someone who is over indebted again...

The real thread title should have been?

"How do I sell my BMW that's still under finance so I can buy a bakkie? Please help!!! :)"

You have to ask yourself how a guy who can afford a car like that got to where he is with the logic/common sense he has

^^^ This.

Plus, why on earth do you think that you cannot trade your car in? It means zip if it is worth more than the bakkie - the difference will simply be refunded to you.

Might be that he's wanting to buy a bakkie privately but sell his BMW to a dealer?

Any case if your price is right any dealer will buy it.

That was my situation - twice.

I just paid the dealer to broker the deal through them.

What bakkie buddy? The car-like Amarok or butch Ranger or are you a due-hard Hilux man or perhaps a KB dude or even the left field BT50 or per perhaps the quirky Triton or don't rule the tough Hardboody or the underated Navara?

Or the Chinese influx I won't mention.

Thanks for the advise fellas.

hahaha... Easy on the comments guys. I'll give BMW a shout and hear what they have to say, no doubt. I wanted to ask fellow members for some input before I started making any moves. In my experience, this always helps as you get some insight before starting to engage with these companies who for the most part don't have your best interests at heart.

Surely if you don't know or are not sure of something, You ask... No? :) You'd be amazed at you can learn from such an active forum with lots of knowledgeable members across various industries. At the very least, you always get that bit of insight that you may not have anticipated.

Anyways, I'm looking at maybe getting something small like a NP200 or Chevy Utility for a business I'm starting. I'm not keen on selling privately (although this does seem more appealing as I ask around).

The plan is to sell the car, settle my finance and use the difference plus some cash i have to buy a bakkie privately (cash).

I think it will be cheaper to take you BMW to a coach builder that can convert it into a bakkie.
