Absolutely there are still good tech's out there!!!

Always be friendly to them. As much as you want to yell and shout at them it's not their fault Telkom is shafting you. In most cases Telkom is shafting them too. You know tech's have to call the same call center we do and get the same wait times we do? Disgusting!

Hate Telkom, not the people there trying to help you. Anyway glad you came right, hope it stays that way!

Awesome end to the story and you didn't even have to play Sparky Sparky with your phone line.

And yes, treat that Telkom techie who comes round to your house well, he is just a cog in the evil machine that is Telkom - and they do good work most of the time.

The most frustrating part is always identifying where the problem lies.

Phone ISP and generally they blame Telkom.

Phone Telkom's call centre (now not even owned by Telkom) and they attempt to identify your problem using keywords and general **** it up further. You slam the phone down, kick the cat, curse at the wife, get kicked out of the house, count to a million and dial 10210 again in the hope that you get through to a knowledgeable agent. Rinse repeat. And then your ref gets closed while your fault is not repaired. Phone 10210 and insist on a techie coming out.

Techie pays you an unannounced visit, nobody's home, so he closes the job card.

Phone 10210 again and ask for the techie to make a proper appointment.

Techie meets the appointment, does a rudimentary test, says your line is within spec and buggers off. He closes the job card.

Phone 10210 again and ask for the techie to make a proper appointment and come back again.

You get a knowledgeable techie who has some pride in his work and BINGO!!!, your service is sorted out!!

What a ****ing mission!!

Had exactly this issue, logged a call to Telkom to move my line(same property just across the other side). 2 weeks later a guy pitches up climbs up to the roof, joins my line and runs cable to my new flat(took 7 hours as his drill bit was so worn he couldn't get through the wall and had to go to the depot to get another one which was also worn so I had to go buy one). Happy days. Except for charging me R750.

A few weeks later my SNR goes to **** and eventually the line disconnects entirely, call telkom. 2 days later the guy who originally put in my line comes over and tells me that the previous idiot joined my wires with an interior window box mounted on top of my outside wall which naturally filled with water. Strips his moer and reports to dispatch manager, he then runs me a new line from another pole and no problems since.

There are really great techs, there are also cowboys.
