I am sure that we will soon see that MTN will adapt their product to be in line again with that of Vodacom, namely:

1. Multiple bundles
2. Bundles on the Mychoice accounts where the included airtime is used for bundles.
3. The making permanent of the 2G bundle and reducing its price
4. The introduction of a true 1G bundle at a reduced rate

I am also sure that MTN might again be the first to look at the rates of bigger bundles to ensure a benefit for loading bigger bundles.

However, Vodacom still need to match MTN with its small bundles where you can buy bundles smaller than 500MB. For many users on Vodacom the only way to use small bundles like 75MB is still to take out the 4U Contract.

I think Vodacom are planning to allow smaller PPDB's, the bigger ones were just launched initially to test out the system etc.

The WAY 2 GO

Hi Guys & Dolls

We now speak with action and don't ask for anything from the networks anymore.

1. Throw away your Virgin mobile sim.

2. Buy a Vodacom Starter pack

3. Buy a MTN Starter pack

4. Purchase R200 Vodacom airtime from Pick n Pay

5. Purchase R10 MTN airtime as well.

6. Load each airtime onto the sims.

7. Purchase a 500meg bundle from Vodacom for R189

8. Keep the MTN sim handy just in case you run out of megs quickly purchase R70 of MTN airtime and load 100megs for R80 ( Remember you already purchased R10 MTN airtime before )

9. Carry on from month to month in this fashion.

10. Should you be a heavy data user then purchase 2 x 500megs for R378 load at once.

11. Send and e-mail to Vodacom requesting 3G/HSDPA coverage in your area.
( They are listening to you - you should have coverage in 3/4 months )

Donot complain this will put so much pressure on the other guys that we will see record lowering of prices.

Or you can just by a 1Gig from Vodacom to start at R289 or 2Gig at R389

I think alot of ppl that can't get DSL or don't like bills being sent to them or nasty contract.. Will got for a 1gig or 2gig bundle on prepaid.

Not everyone can afford getting DSL, so thats a nice alternative if u have a Data-cable and a EDGE , 3G or HSDPA enable cellphone...

If the prices drop some more, they might even gain Telkom DSL clients. (Specially those people who are low-usage users, who only need international/local for websurfing, emails and Messenger)

They are already - a friend of mine is cancelling his ADSL and getting HSDPA.

It makes more sense to use one of the cellular operators for internet because there is only one bill to pay:) Also you don't have to wait for a line.

But the month to month bases is daylight robbery and you must use up the data packet within the month purchased, not fair. You buy u lose. I'll stick with Virgin for now,u lose nothing on pre_paid.

Yeah theres always some nasty fineprint. I only noticed this a few months into my bundle. Thought I was going to be sensible and conservative with my megs. How pointless

Yes, but you had to pay R275 to get the bundle, because there are NO R189 vouchers. So at some point you will have to reload and what then. I smell a rat.

Besides, MTN are releasing their own 500Mb bundle very soon.

You can load multiple vouchers of a smaller denomination to get closer to R189 or if you buy from an ATM etc. you can load an exact amount. The MTN 500MB bundle is available on prepaid isn't it?

Either way. MTN is still running this 1GB+1GB thing, so they don't have a "real" 1GB bundle. So their prices below 2GB is a bit messed up. Next month i'll probably give Vodacom a shot on the 1GB if MTN didn't at least do something about the 1GB and 500MB prices.

I'm sure MTN will sort out their pricing within the next couple of weeks otherwise they will definitely lose some of their prepaid customers, I think.

Any news on MTN's pricing and whether top up customers will be allowed to use the included airtime to purchase data bundles?
