I upgraded to the Windows 10 Creator’s Update (Version 1703) but now I find that I can no longer connect to the internet.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I did post on Microsoft Community but no one has responded yet.

Had this a couple of times, upgrading machines for clients. Winsock becomes corrupt.

Right click start, 'Windows Powershell (Admin)'.
netsh
winsock /reset

Reboot

For the client corporate WiFi I had to delete my WiFi connection and recreate it to get it to work.

Apart from that, my Lock Screen finally works (bing desktops) so yeah - otherwise I haven't seen anything (or used anything) from the creators update....

You need to check whether your computer has windows 10 wifi drivers. Microsoft allow you to upgrade to windows 10 even though your computer may not have windows 10 drivers. They then give the manufacturer time to create windows 10 drivers. If the manufacturer decides not to create windows 10 drivers then after a year or so your wifi will be disabled by a windows update. You can try and reload the original wifi driver the computer came with or just buy a usb wifi dongle. Another easy solution is to get rid of Microsoft completely and load Linux Ubuntu.

Many thanks for the responses. Apparently there is a bug in Version 1703 of the operating system as evident from hundreds of posts on various forums that I have just come across online. Microsoft has been aware of the problem for some time and apparently is working on a fix. It appears the problem only arises when connected with a modem and not with a router. It follows that, if one connects to the internet with a modem, it would be advisable not to upgrade to the Creator's Update yet.

What's the difference between a modem and a router?

I have tried this but no this does not work. The following error message comes up:
Winsock /reset cannot be found.

Anything else I can try? By the way, were your clients also using a modem?

Most certainly it means RAS access modem (using emulated COM port) as opposed to other types of interface.

Microsoft do not like this type particularly. It was working erratic since the official v1024. Probably politically motivated poor support, as it is the only interface with default settings as a "metered connection". You see, Microsoft is advertising a "metered connection" as an alternative to disabling automatic updates. It is better for Microsoft if such interface is not working. :)

If you're connecting to the internet using a 3G/LTE dongle instead of regular WiFi, this is a known issue, but it's intentional. Microsoft pulled a lot of the old supported network configurations supported in Windows 10 for USB cellular modems and rewrote or replaced most of them, so a lot of older USB dongles now no longer work properly. You'd have to wait for Fall Creators Update to see any improvement, and hope that the modem vendor updates their drivers and configurations in time for that.

In Microsoft's terminology today, "modems" to them means the 3G/4G USB dongles. Devices like a MiFi work just fine, but the USB dongles, particularly older ones, aren't as well supported anymore.

This is also why some older 3G PCIe cards in laptops are beginning to show configuration issues and driver problems with Windows 10 after upgrading to 1703. Microsoft had a massive whitelist of supported configurations in the past, and they trimmed it with 1703 to filter out all the old modems on unused bands or that didn't have full feature support for the Windows 10 networking stack.

Hi Mike

You have to type netsh first, and then enter. Will give you a different command prompt. Only then, winsock /reset

Yeah, modems was used on some of them.

had a similar issue at work. turned out to be that windows 10 didn't like our 5ghz connection. had to force it to 2.4ghz band.
