check the size of the folder, i remember some trouble a while ago with a user who's folder hit 1gb (maybe 2gb?). Can you move some messages out the inbox to a different folder and then see if you can receive mail?

Some people get problems when it hits 1Gb, but mostly it is around 2Gb where the problems start

If your OutLook PST file(Personal Folder) is over 1gig. Outlook craps its self.
best to is to auto-archive emails to another folder where it will store them.

Are you sure thats the whole error code (0x80040c) u are getting???

once its bigger than 2gig you lucky if it opens. Auto archive is a load of crap have you ever tried getting mail out the archive ?? Best solution split the .pst or set up a new identity and switch between your old and new mail if you absolutely have to keep everything.

It doesn't get full, the size is limited only by the size of your hard drive. But once any folder goes over 2GB it starts to become unbearably slow.

The reason you get that error is probably due to the multiple accounts. If you notice you'll be able to receive mail, you won't be able to send. Let's assume that you have an IS account and trying to send using an SAIX SMTP it won't work, and vice versa. If you're trying to send using an SAIX SMTP you have to send it using an SAIX account, likewise with IS and UUNET.

And remember folks, Outlook Express is even worse when it comes to large mail boxes. At least Outlook Express uses a separate file for every folder.

I forward all mail to Gmail using rules and delete my Outlook e-mails after a few weeks. And since I reload my PC every 3 months or so having a 3 gig PST to backup aswell took too long so Gmail works for me.

Outlook express doesn't have an official limit on Mailbox size, but after individual folders get to 350mb+ you'll see some problems.

Outlook (XP or lower) 2GB maximum, hit it and you'll regret it and possibly lose most of you EMail in the process, microsof has a recovery tool they finally wrote.

Outlook 2003/2007, has 2 mode, the old mode is backward compatiable to XP and the newer one allows stores larger than 2GB.
