I work for myself online so internet connection is very important for me but being deaf and NOBODY that I can ask or talk to, the broadband forum members is all who I can ask.

My problem is connection speed but mainly ftp connection.

1) I am almost 95% certain Telkom and MTN trottle ftp to dead.

- FTP with both Telkom and MTN (Roaming) takes for example easily several minutes to connect and upload a single file when it is possible at all.
- The very same process with Vodacom tettering (or in my modem) takes only a few seconds
- For some periods Telkom and MTN ftp works fine
- I know I can use SFTP that works fine but due to circumstances it's a hassle. (Multiple websites and I really like Total Commander FTP and not yet found sftp program with same interface)

2) With the connection speeds Telkom is plain rubbish

Last Result TELKOM TOWER 40M AWAY - Telkom Mobile account - Older 7200kbps modem
Download Speed: 3662 kbps (457.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3385 kbps (423.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 40 ms
Jitter: 5 ms
2016/10/25, 11:34:44 AM

ACTUAL connection is bad with 70% or so of the time the connection dropped from WCDMA or HSPA to Edge and even with WCDMA or HSPA it easily takes double the time than MTN below to connect to websites etc.

Last Result MTN TOWER 500M AWAY - Roaming with Telkom Mobile account - Older 7200kbps modem:
Download Speed: 2813 kbps (351.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3677 kbps (459.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 62 ms
Jitter: 11 ms
2016/10/25, 11:42:23 AM

ACTUAL connection is MUCH better than Telkom above and websites load easily twice as fast as Telkom Above and also stays relative constant.

3) Modems

- My newest (well still old) Telkom 21000kbps modem broke, can't stay connected for more than a few seconds before loose signal.
- Both Vodacom and MTN modems is 7200kbps but I am still able to work at acceptable speed WITH MTN Roaming, not Telkom (and even with Telkom Tower on the same property - NO LTE coverage in this area)
- No Telephone Line available for adsl.
- Is that because of the modems? (Not telkom modems? - In the past I always used either of the two modems without problems on Telkom network)

(I am trying to get a Telkom LTE modem but it's expensive and because I work for myself and don't have payslips I can't qualify for a contract)

Anyone that perhaps some advice for anything above that can help please, I would really appreciate it very much.

no fiber or ADSL /neotel in your area?

id think that transferring FTP files would get flagged, and throttled, due to the potential sizes involved,

dont know if you have maybe tried Iburst? maybe its faster speeds?

Winscp by the way. Nice interface. Ftp is nuts. Plain text authentication? No thanks.

If you FTP back and forth to US based FTP sites you might consider RDP to an amazon cloud computer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxF6lmnLgNE

Hey it may workout faster even if you FTP to local ones

I am suggesting the RDP becoming the base of your operations.

Unfortunately no Lindline at this property (I rent...)

The server is on local network and fast with Vodacom and sometimes MTN or Telkom (Past two months I roam mostly on MTN due to the bad Telkom connection (Different places, Meyerton (Same signal level aroun 93%) and now Randfontein, same bad performance with Telkom)

I download Winscp (perhaps again) to test thanks

Uploading or downloading is plain small php files for website development (So you can imagine the frustration if you develop something and then must wait and wait like hell to upload)

For server backups (14 gb in total for many files) I use SFTP with speeds ranging from 400 - 600 kbps (I didn't check ftp speeds but if thats 10kbps I will be surprised)

renting should not be a reason to not have a landline.. unless your landlord is totally blind to the advantage of having a telkom landline available to potential future tenants.. it wont increase his monthly rent but will make the property a little bit more attractive.. speak to him about it and tell him you will cover all costs involved in getting it installed if you must.. i am not sure if telkom still does this, but your installation of the landline will be free if you take on their cheapest weekender package, which you can cancel after 3 months.. also, should you move, they will move your landline to your new property for free which will again cost you nothing should there not be a landline at your new property..

besides this, i am certain that if you take 3 months bank statements to any provider, and your bank statements show money coming in on a regular basis, that they will grant you contract so you can get a new modem..

The property owner's husband died, she stay in Pretoria and the house and flats on the property on the outskirts of randfontein is on the market so ....

Terms and conditions always states PAYSLIP and the staff everywhere adhere to that and Capitec won't even give me R500 credit without payslips even while 3+ years at them and more than enough fixed monthly deposits.
