Specs:

Intel Core i3-350M 2.26 GHz
3GB DDR3 1333MHz 2DIMMS
320 GB 7200rpm
17.3" HD+ LCD
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330
WINDOWS 7 PRO 32 w/XPP

I plan to use Photoshop,Dreamweaver,Fireworks but not AfterEffects/Premiere.

I know CS5 has features accessible by 64bit computers, can this laptop take advantage of those features for the packages I'll use?

I plan to do web design and graphic design and to move around a lot(hence the laptop).
And last, I just want to use one laptop and that's why I ask in case in a few months I find out I need to upgrade but can't.

You need 64bit Win7 and then also bump up the ram to at least 4MB.

He obviously means 4GB RAM. I would go for more - at least 6GB. And yes, you need Windows 7 64bit. 32bit Windows can only use about 3.2GB of RAM maximum, irrespective of how much you stick in the machine.

The answer to your question is yes.
Was researching around here and I read that Photoshop will be installed but as CS4 version on a 32 bit laptop,is this correct?

I'm a noob at this, so I'm sure that CS4 versions would be sufficient for me.
Also, if 32 bit versions install then I could look for a laptop cheaper because the one I mentioned costs R9000 even though it does look good.:crying:

The majority of laptops these days are 64-bit, just verify the CPU it uses. 64-bit is a hardware dependancy but can run both 32 & 64 bit operating systems. Go 64bit would be my recommendation as you are going to need more than 3GB ram at some stage and 32bit is not going to allow that.

Yes, this is correct. 64 bit Photoshop CS5 will only run on Windows 7 64 bit.

Many notebooks now come out standard with Windows 7 64 bit.

Your notebook just needs W7 64-bit, and maybe some more memory - the rest is fine.

I recently bought a similar spec Sony notebook, but it came with 4GB RAM and W7 64-bit.

I'm looking at laptops, should I choose 17" over 15.6" screen size.
I don't think I'd want to get the 13" coz it's too small.

You're obviously going to be using this for graphic work. Go for the bigger screen, or get the smaller one with a separate LCD to connect. You'll thank me later.

+1. Even better, go for the bigger screen AND get an external LCD monitor. You won't regret it, I promise you!

If you're a graphic designer, software developer, architect, or engineer, etc, you should definitely be working at least 2 screens. In fact, Jeff Atwood believes that there should be Three Monitors for Every User.

I agree about the extra screen.
I have one laptop that I can use before I upgrade, when I connected an additional lcd it was good!
You can actually read book on one screen and practice on the other instead of Alt:mad:Tab all the time.

I'll definitely look for 64bit laptop in the next weeks, one that can have upgradeable RAM up to 6/8 GB.
