On a normal CD-R disc ? I know u don't get a CD-R with more than 700mb, or do you? Is there a way of compressing MP3's like say 140min onto an 80min disc ?

depends on the codec and the bitrate.
you can probably get close to 180min of music on a mp3 cd with 128kb/s as your bitrate, but the quality wont be as good as it would be if the song was originally encoded at a higher bitrate. a way to maybe look at this is to think of an mp3 cd as a data disk rather than an audio disk. so if you have 700mb of music at 320kb/s, you can convert it to 128kb/s and it will most likely be around 300mb, which means you still have 400mb free
as far as i know, normal cd-r disks are all 700mb (or 650mb for the older ones). dont think you get bigger.

1) You DO get discs larger than 700MB, but they are hard to find and very expensive (relatively speaking).
2) You CAN over-burn on a 700MB disc. There are risks, of course (the smallest of which is making a coaster from the disc, and the largest of which is making a paper-weight from your burner).
3) If you are writing MP3s as data, then you can write 700MB worth of MP3s (unless you overburn). If you are writing MP3s, but converting them first for use in a standalone CD player, then you can write 80mins worth (regardless of the actual size of the MP3s).

If you want to compress your music further, consider using a lower bitrate (or switching to variable bitrate). This will decrease the size of the DATA, but the playing time will essentially remain the same.

I have never really seen the point in that and I really hate it when you get distracted by the sun shining off it in some nut's car.

/Ooh look, pretty colours:p.

Apologies for derailing thread:D.

Well, I didn't mention that the MP3's must be converted as an audio cd. The length of the MP3 is around 140min, but the CD's are 80min, wtf? Does the music publisher then use custom disks to cater for 140min of audio? It's pretty crap really, I mean, why not have a standard where one can convert a DVD to a CD-R type of disk? Now I need to buy a DVD player for the car  My car system has like like 2 x the space, as it's factory fitted

Well making an MP3 CD entails writing the music as data, so if the 140mins of MP3s comes to less than or equal to 700MB, you will be fine.

It doesn't, when Nero calculates before burning, it shows that it's gonna write over 140min which is far over 80min :/

If it is calculating that the 140 minutes worth MP3s are over 700mb in total then you could lower the bitrate to reduce the individual file sizes.

Split it up and use 2 cds, or buy a mp3 player and burn the music as DATA not AUDIO. Btw Cafeviva sold 99min discs last time I checked.

im confused her xeo

are you trying to burn your mp3s to an audio cd using nero?

then you wont be able to do more 80 minutes of music

you can see if they still make 900 meg cd's

xeo57: I think you are probably using the wrong settings. In Nero, if you want to write an MP3 CD, you should write it as a DATA disc. If you want to write an audio CD you should choose Audio CD.

If Nero shows it as minutes then audio format is being used not MP3 or data.

Under audio there is also an MP3 cd format which should work the same as data if you already have them in MP3 format; or converts them into MP3 format if they are not.
