As the title says can you grow Ginger and Turmeric in the conditions we have in Cape Town, specifically the Southern Suburbs.

Anyone have any experience in doing this and have any tips on amount of water, etc.

It grows pretty easy if you give it the right conditions - It does not like too much direct sunlight and your water pH should be around 5.5 - 7.5. Keep in mind that the pH of tap water in the Southern Suburbs is often 9+. I grew craploads of ginger to make some nice alcoholic ginger beer last year, and I should have some new sprouts popping up again soon. When it comes to harvesting, just leave some rhizomes in the ground and you'll have some fresh ginger again the following season.
