Hey guys, used to play WoW on a 2mb line.
My latency was 170 home 175 world.
More or less.
But it wasn't my internet.

Now I want my own internet, I am hoping I can get mobile internet like 3g and 4g. Would this work?

Anyone here playing WoW or other games with a mobile router?

How is your experience.

I'm in northern suburbs. Cpt

Hi

I used a vodacom 3g dongle to play Left 4 Dead when it came out yeaaaars ago. It worked back then. I would think with all the improvements since then, you should not have any issues playing wow.

Expect 500ms pings on 3g. You won't be able to raid competitively. LFR\Questing will be fine. PvP is out.

That seems good. I don't mind using 4g

Why is it so high?
So is it good or bad now? I am confused. One post contradicts the other.

What about 4g?

It's common sense. Different area, different tower, different ISP.

Do a speed test and check if you get 4G/3G and what latency you get.

That is not true, or let me rephrase that is not my experience. Yes you do get the random spikes I would say, but I had on average 260ms and PVP'd all the time, not sure what raiding competitively is, but I did raids as well. :p

At the end it is not as stable as dsl for sure, but you certainly can use it, obviously your connection to the towers is dependent on this.

Tested with my gfs 3g modem.

Latency starts off really well. 209 ms home, 209 ms world. That's only about 50-60 more than I currently get on a dsl line.

However, it quickly shoots up to 3000home 4000 world after like 120 seconds.

Didn't test it for longer than 10 minutes I think we can call that a failure.

Rather borrow or get yourself an LTE-A device and test it again

I remember alot of games, especially FPS was horrible on 3g, and now that I'm on LTE, things are comparable to dsl......
Just remember that it will depend on your signal to the tower. If it is not that great there are antennas that can assist with that

If you're on 4G, you can expect pings of around 180-250 ms on EU realms. It depends on your signal strength and network. Out of the networks I've tested Vodacom and Telkom seem to provide the lowest pings at around the 180-190 mark. Add about 150 ms if you're trying to play on US realms.
