Can you save money by only half-filling your petrol tank?

Well, at over R1 000 a tank currently I only fill up when going long distance. Add R200 to R400 at a time now.

What about the added weight of a full tank vs half a tank?
Negligable savings.

Why not a 3rd of a tank...or a quarter...8th....16th...where does it end?

It's a theoretical saving of a few cents that can be negated by countless factors when refilling more often.

It's a BS, pointless concept.

With a week to go before the expected decrease in the petrol prices I'm pretty sure I can save money by not filling my tank today.

Agreed.

It is no longer a matter of saving, but for me a matter of affordability. Also adds R300 or R500, which is normally enough for a week or two, at a time, but will fill completely when taking the long road.

Negligible savings. I always fill to the 1st click (full tank but not to the brim).

Half of a typical 46L tank is 23L, so around 25Kg of extra weight if you do fill up. Your time is more important than a few lost cents of fuel since it takes time to go to the garage essentially doubling your fillups for the month. A few rands cannot buy the extra 15 minutes you lose. People seem to think that money is more important than time for some reason...

You can, and while you at it remove all the seats that you don't use, radio, speakers, spare wheel.... Or just get a bike. Then half fill the bike, remove the outer shell.... Then get a bicycle. Realise that you too fat and unfit. The use a minubus taxi..... It won't last long. Go grab your car and fill up. Life is too short to drive with half a tank of fuel.

Great summary of why we're a cancer on this planet...
