Can you trade in cars worth less than 70 000?

Just been to a ford dealership and they mentioned that my car wont be sold on their used car floor but will be handed over to a "wholesaler" on my behalf. The dealership mentioned that they do not sell cars worth less than 70 000 on their used car floor.

Ford offered me 20k on a 2006 ford ka with 95000km on the clock.

What should I do with it? Hesitant to sell on gumtree, as it is shady.

Cheers

You'll get at least double that on a private sale. Scout around for pricing of similar vehicles and set a price. Put the word out amongst family, friends and at work... it will be gone in a week!

Search MyBB for the "private sale" thread. Very informative!

Uhm yea about the "good condition" thing.

I got the car right after getting my license. I was kinda a ****ty driver in my first year of driving. I kinda dented the side of my car on the wall while parking it at home.

I am a better driver now. Anyway, that dent was fixed but my dad is a cheapskate. The dude that fixed it knocked out the dent and didnt blend the paint in nicely after repair. It still looks decent thou.

It sells for 45k so I guess it is worth about 30k considering condition. Screenshot_2015-06-20-16-27-36.jpg

I traded my ford fiesta ambiente last week. It's a 2009 model. Had 159000kms on the clock. Got 60k for it. Was worth bout 70k but because of the high kms and small dents they were willing to offer 60k. Oh and it was at barons not a Ford dealership.

Yes you can, the dealer will simply pass it on to a used car lot that deal in such cars. I did a R30k trade in last year.

I'm assuming you have the Trend? If so you're losing around 8k on the Trade( but bear in mind, dealers don't usually give full trade).

That to me is not bad, if you are making up most of the diff on your new deal, then I think it's worth it...

Personally I would just trade than go thru the hassle of selling it privately...

That's about 25% of the value of the car... Certainly worth the 'hassle' of selling private, which is so simple and straightforward.

I traded in my 03 citi golf for R27k about 16 months also. just 2k shy of what it was selling for privately...

Some dealerships offer quite a bit to make that sale.

My in-law bought a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe a just over a year ago for R599k.
Less than a year later, book value dropped close to the R500k mark but when trading in at Jeep, they settled his R570k balance.
