Can you trade in cars worth less than 70 000?

I'm assuming you have the Trend? If so you're losing around 8k on the Trade( but bear in mind, dealers don't usually give full trade).

That to me is not bad, if you are making up most of the diff on your new deal, then I think it's worth it...

Personally I would just trade than go thru the hassle of selling it privately...

Yea it is the trend. I dont want to go thru the hassle/anxiety of a private sale. I am not comfortable with some random having my personal details from transfer papers. He/she might be pissed off for whatever reason and give me hassles.I am getting a decent deal on the new car, so will accept the dealerships offer.

Just been to a ford dealership and they mentioned that my car wont be sold on their used car floor but will be handed over to a "wholesaler" on my behalf. The dealership mentioned that they do not sell cars worth less than 70 000 on their used car floor.

Ford offered me 20k on a 2006 ford ka with 95000km on the clock.

What should I do with it? Hesitant to sell on gumtree, as it is shady.

Cheers

They talking k@k.

They trade any car if in good condition and they can make a buck on it. They clearly don't want your car

The ka isnt in the best condition but it certainly is a reliable car.

You sure? Throwing away extra money for very little effort isn't always a great idea.

I'd be interested in the car if you're in JHB, feel free to PM if you change your mind.

They are very nice little cars, a lot of fun to drive and really grips the road in corners. Was tempted to get one a few years back.

I will provide you with an honest description of the Ka.

Year :2006
Model : Trend (no central locking and manual side mirrors)
Mileage : close to 100 000km

It was purchased used.

Description:

I knocked the bottom left side while parking, which caused a dent. A panel beater knocked out the dent and resprayed it. He wasnt able to match it to the exact black and it has a somewhat uneven look to it.

The boot lid/hatch has an issue with water leakage. Water enters the boot while it rains.

The car was apparently in an accident involving the back bumper and my folks werent aware of this at time of purchase.

It doesnt have a dealership service history and I lost the manual.

It is a reliable vehicle and I have enjoyed driving it. It is the type of car that you can push and will never give up on you.

Doesn't sound too bad at all.

Those are really minor things to fix. You can get R 30k for it without even trying by selling it privately. Pop in in the Junkmail and see what happens. Say R 35k negotiable. If the guy complains about the door colour and the leak say ok - R 30k

Sold.

Cool thanx.Do you think a dealership can process the sale for me and maybe just charge me a service fee? I think I will feel more at ease if a third party is involved

They can, but it's really not necessary.

All you really need is:

1. Meet at police station
2. Buyer's EFT into your account, cleared, etc.
3. Yellow/green registration form. I can't remember the colours, but your traffic department will explain everything, I'm sure it's on this forum too
4. Certified ID copy, with the buyer filling out his details on the form
5. You take it to the traffic department for peace of mind in case they don't and the car remains in your name. They will need to license the car, and have about 30 days to do so while on your licence plate.

Why though?

Just only accept cash on the sale. Simple as that. Make sure they meet you at a place where you feel comfortable and take friends with. Don't be so paranoid :p Thousands of people do this daily with no problems. Get the transfer papers before hand. Make sure you filled in your form. Give it to him with the original papers for the car. Take cash, give key. Deal done.

O ja, remember a copy of your ID. Certified.

Edit: Just as a side note. It's normally dealers who buy these private sales. Some times you might get someone who saved hard and will appreciate the car. But dealers shop and drive around the whole day buying cars.

Best done, together, at the traffic department to ensure they get handed in. Otherwise the car remains in your name, very dodgy. Crime, fines, etc.

Is the car a code 3?

There is no beating around the bush the car sounds like it's had a rough life.

Based on what you said if I was a gambling man I would say R25k to R30k Max...
