My open letter to Steven White of Telkom

Dear Steven,

I have read your article re ADSL and I have expressed my opinions.
It will be a waste of time writing to you as I wanted this morning.

I am canceling my ADSL account. Period.

You have shut me out of the internet with your CAP and I am fed up
with trying to communicate with anyone at Telkom.
I bet neither you nor anyone at Telkom could care a toss about me.

I should have heeded the warnings about you guys – but after avoiding Telkom all these years I thought - my mistake.

I will be writing to you on Monday when I demand a FULL REFUND of
all costs I have incurred with you and your ADSL connection.

Hi Microfast

I will voice your opinion in the meeting with Telkom. I am not certain if we will be able to negotiate refunds, but I will definitely try!

Thanks for sharing your correspondence with us.

Regards,

It is sad Telkom had to ruin what is in 1st world countries a fast and usefull connection option.

I hope you have luck getting your refund microfast.

I got an offer for a refund in credit, that may be a way to get refunded by Telkom...be prepared to accept it as credit to your account.

well, take the refund as a credit to your account and then terminate all services. They have to pay back the credit to you, right?

On the better side,

I received an email tonight (after hours) from Telkom,
seemed someone finally responded positively.
They offerred, on receipt of debit order details,
to activate my second account immediately.
This was much appreciated but the last three days
(completely shut out of the net) was just too much.

I thanked Telkom but ADSL will be cancelled.

The shut out of a connection after the CAP is a serious blunder
by Telkom. If they can fix this before Monday I will be
delighted. I am sure that if the top people at Telkom took
some notice - this could be solved within hours.

Come on Telkom, take one additional small step to a world class player and admit it -
Shut out after the CAP is (was ?) a serious blunder

Please fix it without any further delays.

Once again thanks to Telkom for making contact after hours [:)]

I'd be amazed if they did. This is the single most important gripe I have. I've written to them on more than one occasion, including to our friend Steven complaining specifically about this.
Usually I don't get any response, or if I do, they tell me I can get another account. They just love to dodge the issue. They don't even acknowledge that there is a shut-out after cap. The fact that they graciously offer to activate a second account is proof of that.

Hello readers and Telkom who i bet also reads this

I will wait until Tuesday to see what happens in the meeting between us and Telkom. After that i also will demand cancellation and a refund from Telkom. I have had A-Damn-Slow-Link for less than a week and i burned through my cap in 3 days. My ISDN 64k was much better and cost about the same at the end of the month.

So Telkom we will wait and see what you achieve. After that i say we should team up and send a combined letter to Telkom for cancellation of all our adsl accounts.

If necessary i would even contribute towards advertising to gain more members for this forum, just to have more clout in negotiating. I think it is not about money anymore. We have been ripped off for too long.

The sad thing is that Telkom probably doesn't care. They didn't want to provide ASDL and they are probably now seeing the final phase of their plan coming into action. You know that song "Money for nothing". Well, seems we are in dire straits here.

Above is the link to the small claims court - I see they handle matters up to R3000 which is about the cost of your router and installation charges. There is only one thing that worries me though, is Telkom "The State". I however do not think so, but a legal opinion would be appreciated. Telkom can change there Web-Site as much as they like, I still have their installation CD with Superfast etc all over it. It would be an idea to sue Steven White, the known Telkom representative.

Telkom is a public company with shareholders other than the State.

In view of the Advertising guys' decisions published elsewhere, I think you will have to state quite clearly your case.

Firstly, fighting the Cap will be useless.

But, taking on port prioritisation that was nowhere mentioned in the early days, will have a good chance.

Also the total inability to use certain international services after the cap (specify them!) might have a chance.

And BTW: I'm no lawyer- just a techie with common sense.

The problem is that Telkom will possibly state a "No guarentee" defense. Have a look at the "Best effort" clause and combine that with their "World class" statements in their annual report etc as well as indicating what is world class.

In a totally separate claim, one could try that it is reasonable to expect service from a "world class telecoms" entity to provide a service of quality and content similar to what is offered elsewhere. Then go into the generics of how ADSL is marketed elsewhere in teh world and the fact that Telkom failed to indicate that its offering would not comply to world standards and the expectations it created with customers.

Out of interests sakes, can RPM/whoever do a grep for telkom.co.za addresses in the access.log's, geographically where(if any) most telkom.co.za hits come from to this page?! :p

I'm totally sickened by Telkom and their approach to this website.
I cancelled my ADSL, in fact I cancelled ALL my Telkom services. I never, ever want to deal with Telkom again. They couldn't even manage to cancel my services in one go ( as requested ). Telkom you are pathetic! I will use MTN until I relocate to a 1st world country at the end of this year. Wake up Telkom, wake f!@#$!@$@#!$ing UP!!!

I will continue to support this website and if MyAdsl ever need a few bucks to sue Telkom or advertise or for whatever reason you guys can add my R1000 bucks to it.

Cheers ADSL, cheers Telkom, cheers Steven.

Another happy client....

Well done Telkom.

Roll on competition. I can't wait to be bombarded with crappy Telkom ads when they try to retain their clients....

Yeah ,remember those pathetic ads when old Danie Du Doit came on TV apologizing for their crappy service, then asking for forgivness.
They should make him MD again then he can make the same ad and apologize again for no changes of Telkoms attitude to its clients in 8 years.
How pathetic

Does any body know whether Telkom have a right to charge a R200 disconnect fee for the termination of an ISDN service?
I have been to the Telkom/ISDN site and there is no mention of any such fee
This is obviously on top of the adsl installation charge for another of my lines.

Telkom ignores my request for cancellation of service or just don't care, I'm not su

I have sent a requeat to Telkom for cancellation of service on 31 March and as of today (5 May) no response yet.
They refuse me telephonic access to the cancellations dept.
Since my application, (the day I changed over to WebAfrica Fibre) Telkom has been running up a bill for R 1462.65.
They are also holding a deposit of R 3500.

Since they keep ignoring my email requests, what do I do now?
Looks like I have to hand this matter over to my attorneys?
