Anyone succeeded in cancelling their ADSL account (Line & TelkomSA ISP Account) ?

For some reason I'm running a MAZE with Telkom. They require me to send a fax. Which I did. I never get ANY reply from them, so I phone them... and they require a fax. I'm TIRED of going around in circles. Meanwhile paying for a service I do not require anymore.

*sigh*

Don't pay. You're not the only one - I moved house in December, and 5 months later I'm still battling to get the ADSL charges cancelled on the old account number. They kept on raising their monthly charges subsequent to the line being cancelled on 18 December, and the last bill I received reflects this still happening. I've even spoken to the idiots in the ADSL offices in Durban, to no avail - all I get are promises to fix it, but nothing happens. I'm now waiting to be listed on ITC for non-payment, then I'm going to launch legal proceedings (I'm Legalwise)...

go into your local telkom shop and talk to a person there. the phone is never gonna be good

That one always gets me... Telkom's business is to operate phones... Yet, their own employees can't seem to grasp this :)

Take a deep breath, realx.
Phone 10219, wait 40 minutes.
Get the operator to open your account up.
Explain what's happening carefully.
Don't get cross, don't get flustered. Be gentle, be patient.
Compliment the operator.
If they ask you to fax, tell them you're going to fax the Proof of previous transmission as well.
They will then rectify according to the proof that you have.

If you go to their "shop of little horrors", take the original fax + proof with you.

Funny enough, I ran round in circles when I wanted to cancel my ISP services with Telkom. I spent all day talking to pretty much everyone at Telkom. I then phoned ADSL technical support, and asked them to put me through or help me out. This has worked with me a couple of times since they at least know who does what and where, and they put me through to the right people, who handled it all immediately.

Well, several faxes later and calls to 10219 and I'm still stuck. Tried explaining that I have faxed them all the details several times, but they won't budge. The Telkom customer care branch, took my fax, phoned 10219 and re-faxed my fax, to no avail.

Will try to do the ADSL technical support route on Monday. I am REALLY getting furious with Telkom about this. It is as if they just ignore any service cancellation requests. Yet, when your payment of your account is overdue by one day, they happily and speedily disconnect your line. This is ridiculous.

I promptly told them on the fax that I will resend the fax every day until I get acknowledgement and that I will NOT be paying any ADSL fees after the 20th May 2005. As far as I know Telkom does not require a 30 day notification period.

I WANT OUT TELKOM!

did you get the call reference number from them? I learnt long ago that whenever you have any dealings with Telkom, insist on a call reference number. it stops the slackers from not doing their work... they have to log all calls in their crm system, so dont accept the answer "i cant give you one", otherwise your request will go straightto file 13...

I agree with ScrnScrm.
Also, Get the Name of the opperator and bug them crazy if it does not happen. Without the name & number you have nothing to stand on.

aint the devil happy

IVe been tryin to cancel my adsl for 2 months now.Still nothing.I faxed a word document, they said it was not good enough.WHat THE f@#$%.What?I am canceling my telephone with them to.No more telkom....thank you G@#..for the good things in life..which is better in australia, ill be there for 2 to 6 months.WHen i come back its SNO for me.. :D :D

Well, they have told me that according to the system they have received my cancellation order. They cannot give me a date when it will be processed, as this entails a Telkom technician to PHYSICALLY go to the exchange and unplug my line from the DSLAM. And as Telkom technicians are VEEEERY busy in Stellenbosch, it can take up to 2 months, or just a couple of days.

Pffft. I informed them that I will NOT be paying for ADSL access from the start of June, to which they had no comment. Got the call reference number tho.

If I want to get a more exact date, I was pointed to another Telkom 0800 number, where I was kept on hold for about 25 minutes with no one answering.

Stuff it.

Go to the local office with a baseball bat in hand. They'll cancel your account immediately. Screw Telkom!

All you have to do is send a letter stating that you want to cancel, giving 1 months notice, unless you have singed into the 2 year contract to get a free modem.

Just send it and the send a letter to [email protected] informing them of the cancellation
