Please help prevent a grown man break down in tears!

I've read everything on the forum relating to sharing a connection using a router. Last week I took the plunge and came home with a Netgear RP614 router. After spending hours repeating the installation wizard my IBurst modem just stood smiling at me - it wasn't going to happen!

Back to the forums and I noticed that most postings recommended the WRT54G. So off I went to Makro and arrived home with Router No 2. Four hours later I'm sure I saw the modem wink at me - my frustration was that obvious!

I followed the wizard and connected my network cable from the modem to router and then connected their blue cable from router to computer. The next screen asked me for the connection type - I entered PPPoE followed by my User name and Password. As instructed, I disabled Wireless security and then waited with baited breath - it would not connect to the Internet.

I'm using IBurst at work and at home and have repeated the wizard at both locations with the same result. Even re-setting the router to factory settings made no difference.

Please could somebody go through the full procedure step-by step so that even an idiot like me can understand?

Hey, I'd love to help. I also have a WRT54G. Got mine working in a matter of minutes! I was quite impressed with how simple it was. PM me, and then if you like you can give me a call.

possible solution

Hi,

i may be mistaken, but if i remeber correctly, the rouuter has to be set up as a DHCP to allocate an IP address to the modem. I've got the WPN824 wireless router and i had to set that up to allocate IPs to my network and my modem to get connected.
Hope this helps.
