Very nice. Personally I don't have the $$$ but that's very cool. Effectively a 200-560mm F4-5.6!

I'm really impressed by everything they announced today. The 1100D looks like an idea starter for my sister, who's well versed in SLR shooting and still use an Elan film body, so I considered the 1000D a little too basic. The new speedlites can trigger the camera they're attached too - that's in interesting and useful move, given that the xxD bodies don't have a IR remote like the rebels do.

I wonder when the 5DmkIII will land - it's overdue.

I like the idea of the 200-400, it what I wanted for a while.

If we consider the Nikon 200-400's price we can say it's gonna be 75+K
If this lens is going to replace the 100-400 we may contemplate under 40K, as it replaces a lens costing 16K. I base this on the price increases of the new crop of lenses over those they supersede.

No chance of that. :D

This lens falls into Canon's "Super Telephoto" Range, the very high end optics they sell. The other lenses in this range are things like: 200 F2, 300 F2.8, 400 F2.8, 500 F4, 600 F4, 800 F5.6 and ofcourse now the 200-400 F4. This thing also includes a built in 1.4x Extender which on its own is +-R3500(When I bought).

The average guy will still be buying the 100-400. Only Pro's and very wealthy hobiests will get the 200-400.

The versatility is what is really tempting to me, 200-400+1.4x all in one lens.... so tempting.
