Have a Canon EF 200mm f/1.8L USM that needs to go.
Optics in pristine condition. Paint is chipped though but still awesome lens...

Yip I'm almost there but I'm still just fishing. This is one of the best lenses that Canon have ever released. Just fishing for prices...
How much would one sell this for?
Probably around R30k depending on the condition of the lens.

Well Like I mentioned, the condition of the optics are 100%.
It's just some marks on the outside and some paint chips. but this normal for all lenses...

Damn this is tempting, I'm a little worried about parts for it.

You could try outdoorphoto.co.za's classifieds, probably one of the better places to try and sell photographic equipment.

It is - if I wasn't aiming for a 400 f/2.8 I'd probably be all over this.

If I didn't have to sell my 400 to get this I would be all over it :D Will probably just save up for a 200 F2 someday.

The 200 F1.8 is legendary though.... I wonder.... do I really need my car? :D

Second hand is good enough for me. :)

Besides, I'd have to have a screw loose to buy a new one now with the mkII just around the corner. Cricket season is nearly over so I've got time on my side. :D

The only problem with the new one is that it is expected to be +- R120,000.00

It's listed at R 111,995.00 at Orms. That's nearly double what I paid for mine.... I can promise you it's not twice as good. Better? hell yeah, but not that much better.

@Bwana - I think I'll pass on that deal :p

There is a Original 400 F2.8 on Outdoorphoto at the moment for R30k, it's the non IS original version but could be worth a look?

For sport IS is of no use. I have been contemplating it myself. Just the weight of that monster lens which I dislike.

Considering the 200/1.8.. very nice, but Canon does not produce any spares for it. It was introduced in 1988-2003 as far as I could establish. If it breaks Im afraid its perfect for a giant mug.

I saw that. On shorter lenses I'm not a huge fan of IS but it has it's purpose and on that lens I'd rather have it than not.

That's not entirely correct. For a sport like cricket you can still find yourself shooting at 1/400th, particularly if you have to use a TC.
