Canon EOS 550D vs Sony SLT A35

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a DSLR camera, I've been looking at these two cameras (as title suggests). Does anyone have some pointers or comments?

Or alternatives that I can look at? Don't want to spend more than R7k.

What are you going to use it for ?

Perhaps consider the Nikon D3100 too.

Personally, I'd recommend either Canon or Nikon. Remember you're buying into a system, so consider also future lenses, as you will usually keep them when you upgrade the body. There are loads of secondhand Canon and Nikon lenses around.

Yes, I had a look at the Nikon D3100 as well. Nice price tag

You do have a point with the lenses though.. Had a look now, and there seems to be a lot of lenses available for Canon and Nikon.

This will be my first 1st DSLR, so not going to use the camera for heeeectic stuff. I like the option of HD recording, but I see the nikon D3100 supports full hd recording also..

I would agree with the canon, Nikon comment with regards to lenses. But also in terms of resale you will be better off in my opinion!

GAME have specials on 550D (+lens+tripod) and D3100(+2 lenses+binoculars). R6999 and R6899 respectively.
