Hey guys

I have a nokia n70. I phoned 155 and got my video calling activated and vodafone live service on my sim. I go into 3g area and they say you have to switch your phone off then back on , it worked once and never again. video call keeps saying not supported by phone or network. vodafone live says packet data packetdata connection not available.

Anyone got any ideas what's wrong. I have emailed the guys at 3g and they said everything is fine their side basically. Now it still dont work. My phone isnt vodacom phone but the guys say its fine it should still work or something. I do use vodacom sim card. I also found out you can use any sim , it should still work. Then what is going wrong?

Plz could anyone give ideas or suggestions. Would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance for any good replies.

that is strange, i also have an N70, when you move into a 3g enabled area it will automatically change from normal to 3g. Make sure that under connection settings that the phone has been set to use the both normal and 3g networks.

To video call some one, both parties must have video calling activated and be in a 3g enabled area.

Make sure the area you think is 3g is actually enabled and the signal is good

good luck

ye a 3g thing comes up under the arial. yes the signal is full strength. You mean both normal and 3g network is dual mode , right? You have option of gsm or dual. I put it on dual, i suppose that right?

oh silent_bob remember me? sup dude. I know you :)

Bl@nk, this is not a VLive N70?

I suspect the network does not recognise your handset and you will see these strange errors.

For example on a non-Vlive 6680, when you try and access the Vlive portal you'll get a message back stating your outside of 3G coverage, even if you've got a full 3G signal.

I'm not to sure if this is the case, so first make sure you've got the VLive APN configured. After it worked the first time, did you do anything that could have changed the APN setting, for example setting the phone up for another network.

The easiest solution might be to have the firmware upgraded to the VLive version.

I went to a vodacare shop and they said my handset wasnt a vodacom handset. I hear you have vodacom software on vodacom handsets and mtn software on mtn handsets.

My phone there is vlive wap setting on the phone, no vlive application or anything. Under tools-settings-connection i had to put the access point name in, thought that would help but it didnt.

The video call worked when i was in 3g area (once), the vlive is the one that never worked. Vodashop says that i have to put vlive software on my phone but they dont want to coz it messes up the phone. Is there another way maybe? BTW do i need a usim card? in the book it says something bout usim card, i suppose that is a 3g sim?

vLive is only available to users that have a Vodafone Live branded phone. Therefore you will possibly need to load the vLife firmware for it to work.

As for 3G - As long as you are using the internet apn on the phone it should work fine. I have made Video calls Voda-Voda and MTN-Voda succesfully a few times as long as both phones are in 3G coverage. Possibly need to have the internet vpn selected as your primary vpn instead of vlive.

Then I am confused. I though vlive was just a APN like the intenet APN surely you dnt need vlive software on the phone to use the vlive portal ??

After 2-3 weeks of struggling myself it turns out you do. I went through the whole thing with Vodacom and then decided not to upgrade my one phone to vLive and rather keep it bare. My fiance's phone is vLive thought so not a train smash.

Apparantly the software sends a different signature to the site as per v3g's earlier post.

Video calling is a Circuit Switched Call, just like a voice call. Thus there is no APN involved in the video call process.

Both SIM's need to be enabled for video calling and both phones must be in 3G coverage.

Thanks v3g

My mind was faster then my fingers with that post.

It was meant to be for data you need internetvpn and for Video call it shouldn't matter.

You'll have to get the software upgraded at one of the shops. It's a new version of the phone's firmware with the Vlive capabilities built in. It not so much a VLive application, rather it's more configuration of the handset to work with VLive.

There is an off-chance of getting your 'vanilla' phone to work with VLive, it just seems easier to upgrade the firmware.

ok i phoned them again , they say the upgrade is the vlive software. It bombs the cell phone and they cant repair it. they say somtimes. So ye i dont think my phone will make it. I went back to the shop where i got and they say they got no vodacom cellphones, ppl been waiting for over 2 months, its high demand it seems. *sigh*

got it at autopage cellular, i think its mtn phone. Is there no way of uninstalling mtn or cell c sotware on the phone and installing vodacom software on it?

I don't buy the 'installing software bombs the phone'.

PM me all your details, please. Including all contact details, e-mail, etc. and I'll see what I can do.

I got my N70 through MTN yesterday. Slapped my normal vodacom sim in and 3G works perfectly. I'm very happy. Haven't tried a video call yet but not in a hurry to use that feature.

Hope you get it sorted out Bl@nk. Good luck.
