Hi all, Don't know if anyone can help us but I have a small web development and SEO business that is growing quickly!

We have limped along for the last year on ADSL but we need some serious speed now.

Mweb says there's no fibre ready for us. Also no WIFI. Sonic came to assess our premises and reported that they can't do WIFI either.

What on earth do we do now?

Any brainwaves out there?

We are in Cavan Road, Wynberg, Cape Town (should i remove that address?).

Thanks Lindsay

Have you checked on your current service and what its limitations are? Have you tried to see what alternatives to your existing ADSL service is available in your area on the Telkom coverage maps?

https://secure.telkom.co.za/today/ucm/

You are on the edge of a dark purple zone, so it now depends on exactly where in Cavan road you are located.

Enter you current service DN number or the phone number of the line here to hep you determine what is available to you right now,

https://ssl-1.ipact.telkom-ipnet.co.za/pubcgi/internal/NBView.pl

Click on Lookup DSLAM and enter the details.

Other than that you may have to formally apply for a business service and see what you can get.

is there no private internet guy around. Or get a router at a fiber point, then put up your own link.

Test the LTE-A speeds of all the mobile operators in your area and use the one that peforms the best. This might be an interim option if speed is important until you get fibre.

its so annoying! i'm in the dark purple but openserve says only VDSL. Dunno why i want anything that starts with VD in my home. :wtf:
Then Telkom lists a few services but apparently they can really actually only give me LTE-packages. However according to https://mybroadband.co.za/news/broa...otout-vodacom-vs-mtn-vs-cell-c-vs-telkom.html Vodacom is the way to go! So my last question is Vodacom or Telkom LTE-packages (no idea what the difference in technology - I just know my house can't have an antennae because of the trees)

Well, did someone dig trenches recently or put new cables on the wooden poles in your area? Anyway, one doesn't contact Openserve, you contact an ISP with Openserve accounts...

So you don't want the thing everybody without Fibre wants, which is VDSL? Because you have some Venereal Disease connotation?

20 or 40mbps not good enough for you? VD infection got to your brain? :p

Isn't VDSL very expensive compared to fibre, per MB/s?

Afrihost 40mbps Premium Uncapped VDSL bundle - R1747 (add the Telkom Voice line rental to that for total cost)
Afrihost 40mbps Business Uncapped VDSL bundle - R3147 (add the Telkom Voice line rental to that for total cost)

Afrihost 40mbps Premium Fibre - R1799
Afrihost 40mbps Priority Fibre - R2499 (it's not unshapped as Business ADSL/VDSL, so cheaper).

So costs are very similar.
