Hi all,
wondering if anyone else has expeirenced something like this before; i cant seem to loggin to a web page www.homestead.com or upload files.
Im not sure if it has something to do with my modem blocking scripts or ports or something....

This Homestead (www.homestead.com)is my web builder program and i cant seem to upload anything to there servers neither, the program just stalls out after a few minutes(everytime without fail)
i have used this Homestead software without problems for the last 2 years, but only now after upgrading to XP home and ADSL do i expeience problems...

i have contacted there Tech support, but they seem to think its probably a firewall (which i dont have; XP`s is turned off) or something to do with port 80.

im running a Chronos ADSL modem, Win XP Home, Norton Anti Virus (no firewall present)
help would be most appreciated

Hi there

I think you will have to give more info. Is this software package using FTP or its own protocol? Are you sure you disable the XP Home firewall on both the LAN and ADSL config? Norton is good, but it can sometimes to funny things with your settings. Search "NORTON" in this forum and you will find tons of info...

Please do give more info... Too much info never hurt...

Cheers

Hi Ant,
The software is a drag+drop offline site-builder, you upload to thier servers when online(or in one session,if you are connected constantly/ADSL)

I have tried completly disabling Norton in msconfig and then rebooting without it, but still i seem to be blocked when uploading.

Im not sure how to disable the firewall settings in the routers software, or even if there are, but i have had alook around and there doesnt seem to be anything that has security settings (except port blocking/unblocking) in the Router software.

I am able to download the software and its updates from Homestead, but when trying to upload files or log-in to thier web page it just seems to time out and stall the app.

i have installed Homestead on another PC running Win2000, on the same network, but no luck there neither, so i dont think its the XP that im running.

Do you think it would be the router causing this problem or possibly something else?
Thanks!
Schogn

PS They do have a ftp server, but i will need to experiment with that, do you know of a decent freeware ftp programme?

Hi

Oh there are a couple! http://tucows.saix.net should be able to help in this regard. I use FileZilla, but it depends on what you like really... Play around a bit. [;)]

As far as the default setup for Homestead goes, I suspect you might have a problem with your Activex controls. I seriously doubt it being the ADSL setup. I'd be surprised if it was! [:)]

I worked on a similar product a while back which also used Java. It would give serious problems if you did not have the Java Virtual Machine running or configured properly. In fact upon thinking about it, I would bet money on it that this is your problem! Check out if you have the Java VM installed on both the machines you used...

Good luck and let me know if you still struggle...

Cheers
