Well their V&A Canterbury Waterfront store was still packing the shoppers in despite the hefty price tags

Stuttafords had some of their shirts on sale. They seemed to be quality, even thought the price was still high by local standards.

probably a rationalisation program in place by Canterbury, closing down some branches around the globe to eliminate some running costs.

I can't see how anyone would buy those expensive clothes... R1000 for a springbok top where you can get something similiar for R150 somewhere.

don't blame everything on the americans for the money crisis. this christmas i was in east gate mall in joburg and it was down right scary the amount of credit cards i saw being handed over the counter to pay for christmas presents. i have two and they both are paid off but i did not touch the things during the holidays but i saw plenty of south africans saying charge all the way to the til, so it is just not americans it is everyone all over.

even though i have two and they are both thankfully paid off i still think credit cards are evil...lol. there is not a day that goes by that i do not get a call from the bank saying, "can we raise your limit?" to which i am smart enough (now) to say "no, i like my limit where it is, thank you."

banks in every country pressure people to live above their means, they always have and they always will. also there is this thing in every country about keeping up with the "jones'" in other words people are mostly judged by their material wealth and not their emotional wealth, the one with the most toys wins. it is called greed and i'm sorry but america is not the only country that has a monopoly on that frame of mind, it is all over everywhere.

can you say gravy-train here in south africa.

I cannot believe that they folded, they made a killing last year, what happened to all that profit?

And on the quality of the shirts, I have to say, its superior to all other make of shirts. I have a couple springbok and bulls jerseys, and those bought at pnp and flea markets just do not compare in quality and durability

Canterbury stuff is really good quality. I have a few Bok tops and a Lions top and they're top notch.

What happens if they decide to pull out of kit sponsorships? As long as we don't go back to that Nike licra kark. That would leave either Adidas or Puma...who else sponsors kit?

How about just buying kits, like ordinary mortals do? There is at least one company in Cape Town who is able to manufacture short runs of sports kits within a reasonable time frame (standard 6 weeks).

Lol. Can just picture it. The World Champs...wearing no name brand! lol.

In the amateur days it was fine but we supporters usually wanna wear the same stuff that our teams wear...and its a huge source of revenue for SARU. "We" (as in South Africans) need that revenue to keep our players playing here in SA and not elsewhere. Once they leave its a domino effect...no Boks in Currie Cup = less support = watered down tournament = less sponsorship/coverage = less money = less development/ less interest to be pro rugby player.
