Cape Town - The City of Cape Town will make the financial interests of councillors available to the public to promote transparency, Speaker Dirk Smit said on Wednesday.
Council has begun the process of making the declaration of interests available online to the public, he said in a statement.
“The City already has a system in place in which councillors must declare their interests via an online form. In this regard, I have received positive feedback and a willingness to participate from all councillors and the system is working well,” he said.
“I have now approached the City’s Information Systems and Technology Department to make these online forms publicly available. Once this is in place, all interested parties will be able to digitally view the interests declared by any councillor in the City of Cape Town.”
Smit said all councillors are expected to declare all shares, donations and sponsorships.
