Soo new to the mother city and looking for a place to rent however I have no idea what the lay of the land is. Working close to century city and would like to avoid long comutes but office has flexi hours so I can work around rush hour if need be. So which suburbs would be good choices considering the above and safety? Have around 4 to 5k to spend a month.

Thanks in advange

Consider Southern Suburbs, CBD area and Durbanville/Plattekloof (Northern 'burbs) if you are prepared to travel into work. Other decently priced places are Burgundy Estate and Royal Ascot - they're less than 10KMs from Century. The flats there are better priced.

I stayed in Century for 3 years. Best decision. Ever. The rent there is slightly expensive - you're looking at R7k-R8k for a two bedroom place so I shared my flat. I would recommend you explore this option. Nothing beats waltzing into work late & calling traffic :"D. After a while it gets lame and boring. Or I did.

Edgemead, Bothasig and monte vista are all good areas and close to century city. A 2 bedroom freestanding house will cost about r6000pm

depends maybe he needs adsl , i heard you cant get get adsl there you need use there fiber network which is expensive.

Absolute rubbish. The fiber was only installed last year.

Some of the complexes, had/have deals with VGS (now Smart Village) to supply connectivity solutions. VGS would lie to people about Telkom not being allowed to install cables - it's a schlep to get ADSL, but it's possible.

Ruyterwaght. You'll get a place for R600/month. Plus some strange neighbours

Why not in Century City then?

Here's one going for R5.5k.
No commute needed ;)

EDIT: Otherwise here's a list for Milnerton and Surrounds:

Century City is way out of her price bracket. 42m²?? That's insanely tiny. Not worth it IMO.

Milnerton is a good choice! Clean, safe suburb and 15min from Cape Town CBD. It's also right next to Century City.
