Can anyone recommend someone that does this professionally in Cape Town (I'm in Milnerton), and if so what might they charge? We have lots of mould on the ceiling above the shower.

We could do it ourselves but will have to buy protective gear to avoid inhaling mould + cleaning solution and not get burnt by it. Will go the DIY route if I can't hire someone.

Just buy some mold & mildew spray - then spray and prey... kidding wait 15min and all gone. You can paint after if you wish I suggest enamel paint. It will save you alot and its super easy with little to no mess.

Use Mould Buster to clean your ceiling, it did the job for me and you can buy it at almost any hardware store. I did however decide to repaint the ceiling as well using a mould resistant bathroom paint.

For above you don't need a "professional", if you were in Pretoria I would have been able to recommend someone that do any handy work jobs around the house for +/- R250 a day. Sure you will be able to find someone in Cape Town as well ;-)

Thanks guys, but how do you avoid the spray raining down on you, breathing it in and getting it in your eyes? I'll have to buy a breathing mask, goggles and some kind of raincoat I would imagine.

I used normal JIK bleach, and one of these: Green Kitchen Sponge

Turn the bleach over onto the yellow part of the sponge so that it gets absorbed by the sponge (and not too much so it doesn't drip). Then wipe the ceiling with the wet part; don't worry if it doesn't come off, it will bleach white in about half an hour. The jik also kills the mould. There's no mess, no spray, no dripping - just don't wear decent clothes when doing this in case a droplet falls onto your clothing.

You are worried too much.

Firstly don't just spray. Take a cloth and spray it on there and then wipe the ceiling with it.

Don't expect to wipe the mould off, it needs to die a slow death and as was said above these things contain bleach so what doesn't die just disappears magically.

Wait a week and re-apply if required.

Best I've seen is this white bottle at P&P with the obvious writing on it.
