Cape Town sets solar power record

The City of Cape Town received its highest monthly photovoltaic solar (PV) installation applications during February 2023.

Residents and businesses submitted 1,040 solar PV applications to the city in 2023, 440 in January and 600 in February.

Cleverly they are not distinguishing between solar and feed-in. Many are buying solar because of blackouts, but it is still not worth it to feed in. Beware the "remote reader" levy and feed in price stagnating each year compared to other increases.

I can't WAIT, that when this all gets switched on, POOF, Cape Town is going to be able to mitigate 2-3 stages of load shedding.
Even more egg on the cANCer's snouts.

Like how the headline leaves out the word 'applications'.

For most readers breaking a PV record means generation.

Cape Town sets solar power record? Compared to what?

Keep in mind CoCT has turned down about 48% of all private sector applications since 2018....

Not really indicative of a city that works FOR you. Or a city that is pro allowing their residents generate their own power.

And this is not local government setting any records but the private sector in Cape Town. Still its just a very small drop in the bucket, considering how many households there are in Cape Town.

The stats could have been far better if CoCT did not interfere with private sector PV installations since 2018.

CoCT attitude towards private SSEG is actually one of the negative factors limiting the uptake of PV in the metro.

If they were forced to step aside - the uptake of PV in the private sector in Cape Town would have been 48% bigger by now.

Making a much bigger positive contribution in alleviating the demand on a failing national power grid. And getting the local economy back on track.

They are going out of their way removing bi-directional meters and installing prepaid. WTF!

Then the Cape will have stage 14 instead of 16 in the future. Only a DA supporter will see this as a win.
