Cape Town testing of cheaper meters going great

The City of Cape Town (CoCT) says it has made "great" progress in testing more affordable bidirectional meters for households who want to feed electricity back into the grid.

CoCT MMC for energy, Beverley van Reenen, told MyBroadband the testing was essential to ensure the meters operated effectively once rolled out.

Nice. Will definitely get one when the cheaper ones are launched.

There are no downsides to this:
People that don't have solar will eventually be able to get lower load shedding levels during the day.
City of Cape Town pays less money to Eskom.
People who do have solar will get their solar systems paid off earlier.
Less money for Eskom will only further accelerate its inevitable collapse.

There is one issue.you have to have your system approved for sseg and city is currently taking 6 months to get a letter to install

A forward thinking municipality, not like the dumbass anc controlled lot who only think in tiny ,tiny pieces at a time, probably that 30% pass rate EVERBODY knows about, so they NEVER ACTUALLY meet the public expectations of "performance " but will award themselves PERFORMANCE bonuses, probably again because they actually pitched up for work, not that any was done.

9 months
When I enquired in November, they had captured the correct name but incorrect address. Bolshy lady said I would now go to the back of the queue

Exactly I am saying this idea of article is good but city does not have the resources to implement properly

Yup the PTI permission to install takes ages, but then you have to get Step 4:

A Commissioning Approval Letter will then be issued within 10 working days.

We got the PTI which was a PITA, and now waiting 4 months for the 10 day completion. They acknowledged receipt of all documentation, but thats it.

One half of the country is finding ways for you to sell your power back. The other half is convincing you to live off 10A and maybe less... such a contrast.
One half of the country is learning how to make pizzas, and selling these pizzas to one another. The other half are all crowding around one (apartheid) pizza, cutting it into thinner and thinner slices.

It would be nice if you were not so proudly ill informed, there are no halves.

SSEG should be automated. No reason for it not to be.

Electricians are qualified and licensed for a reason.

If an inspection reveals that a system is not properly connected, electrician loses his license to operate.

The DA government should stop obsessing about giving permission for everything.

Wowser - they are always on the point of having a solution "soon". This cheap meter has been discussed for over a year now. They should stop talking about it and launch because this is getting ridiculous.
