Has that been 12 years - since first mooted?

Faster than the other metros though, I look forward to our tapping into the billion dollar Joburg fibre

Wish they would focus on their core business instead and remove vagrants and filth from my area!

I don't see providing internet as a core municipal function. Like a clothing store selling cars.......

Not really. Authorities should invest in infrastructure that encourages growth. Same as roads, railways and water supply. If you "remove vagrants" (which is blowing up in their political faces at the moment) you treat a symptom. Encourage growth and there will be fewer vagrants.

The metro will also make a significant savings by taking their data traffic off other network operators' networks.

Done properly it will be beneficial to the local and district municipalities neighboring the CoTC

Who is managing this though - I see SANREN is involved - or has the CoCT got itself an ECN license set

They aren't providing internet to the residents or people.

They provide the pipes that the ISPs connect to.
The ISPs then connect to residents and businesses

The pipes they own are to their benefit anyway as they link up all City Buildings

It also facilitates getting internet to areas that may have been overlooked by Telkom etc.

PS -> Our area is pretty clean...
Vagrants - tough problem. Where to put them because they return..

City of Cape town has already made huge savings via its network. I I recall correctly they cut their telkom bill by over R100K per month by use of the Radio frequency network.

Did you see the dishes on top of their buldings. Net time you drive past a fire station have a look at the brick tower. Most have at least two dishes.
