Wierd stuff going on...
Since Tuesday (got capped on Sun) I have been uable to do anything internationally, including get a WONid or a Steam Authentication (Games), though local traffic is still the same (uneffected).
This is a new thing as up to now I have had little to no problems getting WONid's or Steam Auth. ... this is required to play games online even locally (anti cheat/pirate check).
I contacted the Tech support on 0800 375 375 last night , the tech there said he was not aware of any changes, and he confirmed ,by using my account , that there was no int. connection - this tech said the problem was the throttled int. link was overloaded with capped users (contrary to Telkoms media statement which claims hardly anyone gets capped).
My brother has tried to get assistance through the same tech line today (I am at work, using my work connection to post this), and he got told by one tech the problem was a faulty IP assigned my machine plus a fault that caused my machine not to release the faulty IP address, later my brother called the tech line again and got a tech who would not reveal his name, who told my brother that a) Telkom would enforce a no local, no int. bandwidth after cap policy and b) the tech claimed he was working there since ADSL's introduction and he never heard that int. bandwidth was given to capped users.
Number of funny things happening.
Either:
1) the new ADSL offering has caused a re-route of capped users with regards to int. connection, which has dropped from pratically useless to ZERO.
2) there exists faulty IPs on the capped IP range (never heard of this myself )
3) Telkom have plans to implement a 'no connection after cap policy' for all its ADSL offerings. * I took the precaution of saving the Telkom website with the current definition of its services. *
Whatever the outcome there definetly seems to be a problem with the service.
