Hi Guys,

Ok you might of read my post about being capped for the first time. I am capped for the first time Well of course I was very dissapointed when I got to feel what the actual Capped speed was like. Its like an Italian tank with 1 forward and 6 reverse gears.[xx(]
I couldnt update my AVG Anti Virus program at all. It would start at 1.5Kb and wither down to 200bytes and then time out completely. This was on Tuesday and Wednesday this week when I tried a manual update.
Well I was amazed yesterday(saturday 28th) to find a different picture. Although capped, AVG will now update at full ADSL speed. As I have a AVG schedule setup I was alerted by Zone Alarm on Saturday Morning that the Exe file of AVG had changed. This happens when their is a big program update. So AVG overnight updated itself on the Capped ADSL connection. To test it, I updated the other PC's on my network manually. They all updated at full speed. I do notice a slight delay at first, but when it starts it comes in at full speed.
BTW, I see no change to Akamai update site. It looks all the same. It does not appear to be local.

Secondly. As I have been capped this last week, I still check my usage and I dont notice any more or any less usage. As my son and nephews play mostly CS and spend most of my time while capped on MYADSL[:D]
My point here is. Telkom are penalising a customer for using too much bandwidth, but most of it is local and of that most of it is the children playing games. Now dad cant browse overseas, because of Telkoms pathetic ADSL Package. And daughter cant search for her school projects on Google. I think in the not to distant future we are going to look back and laugh at the "ludicrucy(spell checker)" of the situation.

Hi BTTB.. When I originaly signed up for ADSL and was told that after capping the international bandwidth would drop..I expected it to. But
I never dreamed it would be so slow. I expected my drop after being capped would be approximately about the same as dial up. We all know how fast a capped ADSL line goes.
Most of the time IE times out its so slow.

The good thing is that with Sentech on the doorstep Telkom will have to get into gear with a more realistic ADSL package.
Its just sad that We all have to get together like this to bring the point home to Telkom.

Yes, one can say without blinking that telkom told everyone a lie. The capped speed is not a service at all. You cannot even measure or evaluate such a poor service. It should go into the guiness book of records as the slowest broadband connection in the world. Mr White better take a good look at himself in the mirror sometime as his nose is too long and his tongue is forked. I personally would hate myself knowing that Im screwing my fellow countryman and then try and cover it up with more bull**** stories.

I have a problem with the competition also been owned by the state. I think this must be a world first. A government cartel. Two state owned companies competing against each other [?][?][?] How the hell did we get ourselves into this mess.

Unfortunately this happens far too often in this country, even with companies that are not state owned.

Sentech is not state owned, the state just has a stake in the company. There are for more influential shareholders in both companies that are pulling the strings. On the Telkom side I believe SBC is more to blame for Telkom's behavior than the government, the government just hasn't stepped in to control it as they don't know how to run a petting zoo let alone a telecommunications company. All they're interested in is getting their profit and SBC are providing this by the truckload to the detriment of consumers. SBC don't really give a rat's ass about South Africa or even Telkom, they're just inflating the share price in order to make a fat profit when they sell off their shares. As a result they will continue to milk the public for all its worth.

Yep. Exactly what Prof melody said. None of this helps SA Economic Development. And to think they actually invited SBC. I wonder how long this debacle will go on for.
