What range of car can you finance with that money. Insurance for a 28 year-old included.

No, it's not for me. <sigh> It's my brother.

Just make sure whatever he buys, that he does enough mileage to keep the tax man happy, else they nail you :(

Also keep in mind that the car allowance also needs to cover tires, oil, excess in case of an accident...
It doesn't help to max out the allowance on repayments and insurance, then drive around with a huge dent or scrape on your new car because you can't afford the excess... you've seen them...

I'll tell him about it.

He will factor in general running costs in this allowance though.

Save up for a few months and then buy a car cash.

cmon man! he would have to save for about 4 years to get a car of that size car allowance! and if he aint got an expensive car and doing good mileage, the taxman will cream him.

Why would you even utter the words G5 GTI??? Get a BMW or A3 or GTA or REnault Sport or OPC or something different other than a G5 GTi...common!

2010 is the end of the car allowance tax benefit (without a detailed logbook), so, buy extremely carefully.
I would advise on re-negotiating the remuneration package to exclude the car allowance.

SO what does that mean in laymans for those that get car allowances?

hahaha guys don't gorfet when buying a car you should also take into consideration that when the **** hits the fan and you need to sell it, if you have a GTA then you are in deep shyte if the car has a shyte resale value
