I bought a 2018 Mazda 2 new. Very impressed with the car and they keep value if looked after. Although she wanted manual. They are a bit pricey now brand new.

The Honda Jazz has the best safety spec of them all, I don't know about service plans.

I’m leaning towards the Mazda 2. I like the looks.
Going for a test drive soon

It's a beautiful car and a much better quality product. Good thing you are looking for an auto because it comes with full spec.

Sadly the Up! has just been pulled from SA. I'm a fan of it as well. I felt VW SA should have done a better job marketing it here.

There was never a 2 pedal option offered in SA.
No, they should have pitched it at the correct price point.

VWSA would rather pump their stripped out Polo Vivo, over the much better little City Car the UP!

Is there a reason the Fiesta is not on your list? They're fantastic.

Yep fuel consumption is awesome on these, as they spend half of there time at bloody mechanic lol

Don't even start with terrible powersh1t transmissions and 1.0 ecoboost issues. ( new one does have regular torque converter gearbox now)

As long as it has ABS, stability control, as many airbags as possible,.....
A good tracker that alerts to impacts and harsh braking, .....
Auto locking doors are a must. And watch out for those cars that unlock every door when you turn the key off or open the driver's door.

Then you are all good.

Tech in cars is advancing so much that, even a 5 year old car does not have the safety tech your child deserves. Don't scrimp on costs or aim squarely at fuel consumption and ignoring safety features.

Of course no one in SA uses a city car as a city car. We all gladly jump in teeny tiny atos's and up's and race between the coast and JHB, or worse, between JHB and PTA daily. It's a dumb car and a dum concept in sa.

Shem. My girlfriend has a 2016 and it's given not a day's trouble, bar brake squeak. The new ones (which aren't even all that new anymore) have better engines and transmission and all the features a new driver could ask for and then some.

I think the Up! would've actually do that trip quite well, other cars like Sparks, Atos, Kwids won't.
