I don't get why people are so triggered. R300k now gets you what R150k got you 10 years ago, you can't just say "A first car shouldn't cost more than X" because times are always changing.

And for the guys who are jealous, you should've seen what some of the guys in my matric year (2013) at a private school were driving around.
A M3 E92 (yes actually his, his dad had a Ferrari 360 and one of the first Porsche Panamera Diesels in the country), BMW S1000RR, Yamaha YZF-R1, Subaru WRX STI, Scirocco 2.0 TSI, VW Polo GTI, Opel Corsa OPC, Jeep Wrangler.
The girls had more reasonable cars - a couple BMW 1 series, Audi A1's, Renault Clios and and they were way more careful drivers from what I could see in the parking lot.

I wasn't driving a car in my Matric year, I only turned 18 at the end of the year, but the kids in my year had a variety of cars from new Golf 4s through to minis driven by 2m tall kids, it was funny as hell to see.
