Pathetic.

I never give more than a rand or two, so that must be a very lucrative spot to stand behind cars at!

absolute bullcrap, and shoddy sensational journalism at it's best ( or worst )

I park regularly on church square and have never paid more than two rand to a car guard - people paying ten to fifteen rand to a car guard - on church square - hahahaha

and no way to check or confirm the story - nice one Graeme - quiet newsday was it ?

xtermin8or - that's not the issue. That fact that your undrpaying for car guards is besides the point. How much do you contibute to the people keeping your suburb safe? (aka. police)

Its a shame what police are being paid, public service or de not. Pay the people better, they'll be happier and do their jobs better. It'll also make the profession more attractive.

Lack of funds, don't make me laught. Goverment just waste a few billion on trying to implement a non-working firearms laws. That money could have paid for a LOT of new police people on the streets.

More police = less crime. (theoretically)

In principal I am all for an increase of the salaries police earn, especially the lower ranks.

However, they first need to learn to read, write, talk, drive, shoot, think and generally perform as police men and women. Its more n likely the standard of training and of entrance requirements thats the problem though.

I agree totally, but at least pay them enought to make the job as policemen more attractive. We're batteling with unemployment in SA, maybe they should just make more jobs avaliable in the police.

SAPS can afford to pay cops a better wage if they'd stop spending on luxury transport for the top brass...
Just look at all the X5's, Pajeros and larney Merc's running around on our roads with SAPS plates and markings, not to mention Jackie's favourite Hummer!

In practice, more police means more crime is reported and detected so crime goes up. We are severely under-policed. You would never believe the workload the average defective has.
