Hi there,

where is the best place to renew the car licence in joburg, now that the Post Offices are on strike?

I used to renew on the post office close to home where the queue was never more than two or three people... Now where? Marlboro Traffic Dept?

No, there are some post offices still open and I did mine last Saturday ( Linden Post office to be specific ).
Just find the ones nearest to you/your work, some don't do licencing and some aren't open but eventually you will find one.

Well that's a relief as I also have to renew mine and wouldn't want to deal with the traffic dept queues

The post office still does it you just have to bare with the long faces and slow going of the postal workers.

The one that eventually helped me looked like he had just been notified he had a shrinking penis and would soon be asexual.

I always use the drive through in Bedfordview. Quick and easy. But you have to have the reminder and the exact amount with you

Just did it at Bedfordview today.
Nicol Road, opposite the Fire Station.

Waiting Time: 3.5 hours
Queue: First part is outside in the sun, standing. Second half is seated inside.
Cost: R228 for the license, R72 if you need a temporary License.
Friendliness: Very helpful
Requirements:
1) Green Application Form (you can get this at the info desk and fill it in while you are waiting).
2) Cash for the fees
3) 4 Colour photos (You may not need all of them).
4) Your ID and a copy of your ID.
5) Extra cash in case you have outstanding fines
6) Your glasses (if you drive with glasses).
Process:
1) Get Green App Form and get in line
2) From outside you will be directed to be seated inside
3) From the main waiting room, you move to a side waiting room (for the eye test)
4) Do the eye test, consists of moving a joy stick in response to lights and patterns.
5) Give thumb prints, left and right.
6) Sign the digital reader - your signature gets added to the card.
7) Move from there to the payment window (another small queue).
8) The Clerk checks for outstanding fines - Go and pay those at the Metro window if you have to.
9) Pay the R228
10) Wait 4 weeks to go and pick up your card.

Other Services: You can also do driving tests and pay vehicle Licenses and fines.

Think I'm missing something. Normally I go to the post office, pay my fines and renewal fee and have the car license printed right there. What card?

I think he got his driver's license renewed, not the car license.

Both. Sorry... was just cross posting into this thread.

I got both done at the same time. Renewed my drivers license and vehicle license.
The vehicle license only took 10 mins.
