So, my wife's car has been paid off completely and she hasn't driven it in nearly 7 months. She works about 2km from home and I pass their offices every morning and afternoon, so we commute with one car every day. We're planning on selling the car and even have a potential buyer lined up.

The car is a Hyundai Atos 1.1 GLS, 2006 model. The car now has 63,000km on the clock. What, I want to know, is what can I expect to pay for the following:
- 60,000km service
- Rear-right brake light bulb
- Brake discs
- Wiper blades for all 3 wipers (2 upfront, 1 in the back)

I would prefer to do this at a Hyundai dealer, as all the services up until the 45,000km service have been done at a dealer. We would like to get this done a.s.a.p as the buyer is quite keen to make the deal. Because we are such nice people (and to ensure the deal goes through :p) we want to get the above mentioned list sorted out before we sell the car off.

Any advice would be appreciated...

Sorry to say this, but do you really want to pay somebody else to change 3 wiper blades and a tail light globe??!

That ENTIRE job can be done in your garage at home for the cost of oil and filters and the pads, globe and wipers........probably around R500, but I have no idea what a set of pads will cost.....weigh that up against a couple of grand in the dealer's back pocket, and I know which route I would choose...

I was waiting for your reply... :p

But seriously though, I'm not a car mechanic and will damage the car more than anything else. You're more than welcome to come do it for me though!

EDIT: OK, I can get away by changing the light bulb and wiper blades by myself, but I need to get the service done and brake discs replaced. Can anyone give me an indication of price on those?

Sorry you are not closer, as I could do that entire job with my eyes closed :p

60 000 service is usually a big one, and dealers make the most of it...they are probably going to nail you for about 2 to 3 k ...that is if you do the easy stuff on your own........I cannot advise on prices, however, as my cars don't see a garage after their warranty has expired...

Have you considered laying your cards on the table with the buyer and coming to an agreement in light of the work you know needs doing?

Your buyer may nip at the opportunity to save a grand or two out the gate and then have the ability to get the work done where and when he/she pleases.

Problem is, the potential buyer is quite close to us and we'd hate to see them have car trouble... ;)

Bottom line, is whether you will recoup anything from the service.

If you are open with the buyer and tell him what it needs, then you should not have a problem...he can either choose for you to have the job done, and pay more for the car, or he can get the car for a couple of thousand less and do the job himself.
