If you understand what a Balloon amount is, there is no problem.

Mazda CX-5 2.0 Active Manual – R4,999 p/m

  • Retail price – R471,500
  • Deposit – 10%
  • Balloon – 40%
  • Duration – 72 months
  • Interest rate – 6.26%
no thanks!
Makes sense if you're on a car allowance.
After 72 months just sell the car and pay off the balloon.

Then start all over again with a lekker new car

That's kinda the problem.
After 72 months of paying 5k/pm, you don't even have a car to trade in , as you have to sell it to cover the balloon.

what about leasing, isnt that the same exact thing?
can even get a Nicer car like a BMW and Mercedes on one of those, and probably (IMO) the best way to drive around in a very expensive car.

I mean a BMW or Mercedes out of Motorplan are practically worthless, especially newer ones,

so while they ARE on motorplan, drive the F*** out of them, pay monthly, for anything that breaks. and when the Motorplan finishes, hand it back to the Dealership,
where you pick up another one, and drive the F*** out of that one too.

the ones out of Motorplan, while still okay, depreciate a lot faster than something like a Toyota Corolla or a Mainstream car.
so they are worthless, and why they are super cheap compared to an equivalent mainstream car.

if I were to spend 5K on a car, id spend it on one of these, especially if I do the insane mileage justifying a comfortable car for long journeys.

Not always.. but its about doing the calculations and understanding the risk really.

I personally would never touch a vehicle finance deal that had any sort of balloon attached to it, but for many people it makes sense and it suits the way they view a vehicle in their lives.

They are?

*looks at my out of plan BMW that has only actually increased in value relative to the expected deprecaition in the last 2 years I've owned it weirdly enough*

So essentially you've been renting it.

maybe you have an older one, that has increased due to it being a classic or one without the crazy high tech as some of the other ones do?

I mean BMW's and Mercedes with certain packages/Engines depreciate like falling pianos after the motorplan expires, when everything breaks.
and it cost a bomb to fix, things such as
air suspension? crazy expensive,
Vanos issues, crazy expensive,
value seats? expensive.
timing chain guides, expensive
off road systems? like a LR might have, when it breaks, its expensive.

so you buy those toys when its under Motorplan, it breaks, somebody else foots the bill.
when its expired, you can pick up one for Mahala practically.

No I don't, its quite new actually.

And ALL cars that are "special editions" depreciate like stones after they're out of warranty/service plan/maintenance plan usually. Some not as much as others.
And no it doesn't cost any more or less than other new vehicles to fix these days really.

All your examples exist across manufacturers in differing forms, not unique to BMW/Merc/other premium brands.

Post links to the ads for these please.

What I think you need to do is learn the difference between subjective and objective value.

Your subjective view on BMW especially is not linked in any way to reality, and in fact is rather tiresome to keep reading.

I was scared of Balloon payment, but the only way I could get a car was with a balloon payment on my first new car. As I could not get finance on 60k for a second hand one LOL.

So I bought the Honda Brio in 2014, I then sold it to Mazda in 2017 and they basically paid it off for me.

So I could buy a Mazda again with a balloon and not have previous debt.

I got lucky last year with the Interest rate being much lower, I was able to refinance my car without the balloon and pay a lot less and the car will now actually belong to me.

My honest opinion for someone that is buying a cheaper car that fits there current budget the balloon can work in your favor. Hopefully in 4 Years your finances have increased and you can settle it without paying the balloon when getting a new car.

so why is it on a premium brand it costs so much to fix?
why is it its super expensive to fix air suspension for instance on a Mercedes? where 1 air Shock can cost 10K to replace.

its because that's where the premium brand comes into it, you pay much more for something experimental than for something common.
so Air suspension hasn't been worked out how to work reliably in something like a Corolla, so lets put it in a BMW, and have people "test" it,
and charge a bomb to fix it when it breaks.

meanwhile us plebs, stick with "ordinary" steel coils, as a example. becuse its cheap and there is a big aftermarket for it.
not so much for air suspension, with its crazy pumps and lines and rubber components that deteriorate, and difficult to fix/replace.

No, air suspension is expensive... period. and it generally actually does work the vast majority of the time for brands that use it....

Premium brands use these new technologies because its what their customers want, not because they're "testing" shyte... the stuff has gone through rigorous testing before it is launched to the public.

And just for your reference, things on your shyte box can cost just as much as the premium brands to fix... The cost differential for a similar part is not massive between premium and shytebox these days.

if you say so, but let me then ask you this,
why is it parts for a Corolla are cheaper than your Blue light bully BMW? why exactly? they made in the same factory, using the same materials, by the same robots, and one goes off to a BMW dealership and gets charged a massive markup,
and another goes to an Autozone, and gets charged cost +2% margin from Autozone. (oil filters for instance)

its because your Blue light bully BMW, has its oil filter in a terrible location, that you have to dismantle half the car to get out ,
with plastic Garbage obscuring the screw holes you you have to struggle to get things out of your German Shyte box. all becuse its "premium" and breathed on by Unicorns at the factory.

meanwhile a Tazz/Citi Golf, has it in an easy to get to location, where you'd expect it to be, and you dont even need anything to get out. just grab and turn. no big deal no swearing, no fuss

so again, Mr BMW, explain to me why if you value your Cash, you would buy a BMW, over something that does exactly the same job, and is easier and Cheaper to maintain?
and when it breaks (as its inevitable) its Cheaper and simpler to fix, and doesn't require 15 computers and a degree from Tukkies to understand any of it.

Know many of you guys hate him, but he does make some very valid points about Premium vs Econobox cars.
and he's a mechanic,

Actually no, they generally aren't made in the same factory from the same materials etc.... and all dealerships charge a stupid markup on parts, not just BMW...

And no, the BMW's oil filter is not always in a retarded location that you have to dismantle half the car to get out (different cars have it in different locations, some are retarded and some aren't)... I'm looking at the F30 and the oil filter is right at the top of the motor, all you need to do is open the bonnet to get to it.

So as always, get your head out of your very narrow minded little ass and maybe do even the most cursory checks to see that the crap you are spewing isn't making you look like an idiot.
