Hi all,

The missus has a 2018 BMW 220d with 30K odd kms on the clock which just came back from a brake fluid service today where they also ran some diagnostics and did an engine adaptation reset.

She says there is a sound that wasn't there before when shutting off. I'm not often driving the car so not sure whether this was there before or not, but looking to take it back to BMW and just thought I would ask here to see if anyone has experienced the same, is the "tapping" normal or is this a known issue? Hydraulic pump maybe?

Anywsy I have a feeling they might mess me about as don't know cars that well. The sound is the last few seconds of the vid below:

What the hell is a "brake fluid service"?

Take the car back to whoever serviced it and tell them to fix.

Can you consistently replicate the issue?

Is it only when the engine is warm? Warm and driven? Cold?

Think might be normal think heard something similar on my 320d before. Its like something is not switcing off with the engine and still running a bit afterwards.

I am sure bmw will check if it is normal and fix it .

Yeah they say its normal. They sent a vid of another diesel doing the same. Sound is to do with the valve change.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

My first thought was that it is the ASV closing off the intake but it is more likely a solenoid that controls a valve or the secondary air pump or similar.

Send an email to the service manager and get his acknowledgement.

Tomorrow something goes wrong , at least you have yourself covered in a way to make them fix any problems they may have caused.

Google "BMW noise after engine off" and you will get hundreds of answers about BMW's making funky noises after shutdown.

This would be a good possible answer:

When you shut your car off, the vacuum canister maintains the HVAC system positions until it loses that vacuum and then the spring-loaded blend doors start to make funky sounds as they try to revert to their idle positions.
