If they are doing 10 car washes per day as they claim the pay after costs still seems very decent for what is menial/unskilled labour, R500/pd+.
R10k per month and not paying any taxes, gtfo
How do you know they don't pay taxes?

Does these malls pay the minimal wage? Or do they just cash in?

They pay nothing at all. The guards pay for their spots to a middle man who pays centre management. It's all an extortionist scam enabled by the centre management itself which passes the cost of "security" on to the customer.

If it was done legally the guards would need to be PSIRA registered and trained and the centre management would need to pay them or the company that provides them.

No real issues at all with this. It controls any bad elements pitching up under the pretense of working while doing something else.

Car guards are often the bad element on the look out for potential targets for gangs who pay them for the info...

Yeah right. They voluntarily got to SARS and declare their income in order to pay their share. Are they VAT registered? After all, they provide a service which is subject to VAT.
That is not requirement to register for vat. Over a certain amount you MAY apply to be vat registered. Over a certain amount you HAVE to be vat registered . If not vat registered you cannot charge vat regardless if a service is subject to vat or not.

Nothing makes your trip to shops complete more than being harassed in the car park by a car guard or car cleaner
Turned a car guard down the other day when I went to a shopping complex. I never carry cash with me anyways. I said politely, no thanks.
Next thing the guy starts harrassing me from across the street saying: Sorry boss. Sorry. Sorry for asking YOU if I could earn some money and look after your car.
Turned around and asked the guy if he was actually seriously saying that, and he turned to help someone else.

1. He was a fat, overweight middle-aged smoker who couldn't chase a packet if he needed too, and wouldn't chase a car thief.
2. As I said, I never carry cash. I should have asked the guy if he had an EFT device so I could pay him the money he'd have earned.
3. If he cannot chase a car thief, what's he going to do? Tell me 15 minutes later my car was broken into by a guy who quickly hopped into a car whose number plate he never bothered to remember, nor the details of the car.

I never pay them for the most part. HATE getting out and there's a car guard in front of you. Hate it even more getting BACK to the car, and suddenly some guy who looks homeless and has a bright jacket on claims he was always looking after you car, when he was asleep around the corner.
