Bad news for IT jobs in South Africa

Hiring activity in the information technology (IT) sector has declined by 4% over the past three months, according to CareerJunction's Employment Insights report for September 2023.

Looking at year-on-year performance, hiring activity in the sector has declined significantly since September 2022, with the Western Cape, Gauteng, and the Eastern Cape being hardest hit.

Yup @ the above.
That, or they (like myself and loads of my SA mates), are contracting to overseas companies.
The local IT job market is dead.

Even that will decline.
Crime rates up, theft of laptop = data loss for the company.
Flaky fibre and LTE providers due to load-shedding will also have a knock-on effect that will cause SA to soon be excluded from the list of possible countries that contractors could reside in.
It all adds up, so unless you have an amazing reputation in what you do, recruiters / employers will avoid your CV.

Yup, and working from home for international companies is far better pay and less stress of having a BBEEEE boss, that knows squat about IT.
